Clark Art Airs Live Production of 'Carmen'

The Metropolitan Opera's broadcast production of "Carmen" airs at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 12:55 pm in the latest installment of the 2023–24 season of The Met: Live in HD.    The award-winning series of live, high-definition cinema simulcasts features the full live performance along with backstage interviews and commentary. Composting Company Talks Bettering Municipal Waste at BEAT's Green Drinks

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Is composting the answer to municipal waste? John Pitroff of Second Chance Composting believes so.

Earlier this month, community members dove into the world of composting during an event hosted by the Berkshire Environmental Action Teams' Berkshire Green Drinks, which brings in a guest speaker on the second Wednesday of each month.  The hybrid presentation was given at The Barn of the Williams Inn with a virtual option.

Second Chance Composting picks up food scraps and other organic matter and processes it into compost, covering the Berkshires and parts of Southern Vermont.  The company has a facility in Stamford, Vt. that is certified through

Williamstown's Sweetwood Plans Another Try at Zoning Change

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The owner of Sweetwood Independent Living Community plans to take another try at obtaining a zoning change to allow conventional apartments at the South Williamstown facility.   This time, CareOne plans to have the current Sweetwood residents on its side.   Attorney Jeffrey Grandchamp appeared before the Planning Board last week to inform it that Sweetwood's proprietor hopes to bring a different type of zoning request to May's annual town meeting.   Instead of a two-step approach that would have rezoned the Sweetwood property and expanding the uses in the new zone, Sweetwood is aiming for an overlay district to cover the assisted-living

Williams College Testing for Geothermal Capacity at New Museum Site

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Williams College is doing the ground work for a new art museum at the former site of the Williams Inn.   Actually, it is doing the underground work.   This winter, the college is drilling a test well near the Field Park rotary to assess the terrain's capacity to produce geothermal energy for the planned museum.   A crew from Armonk, N.Y.'s, Brightcore Energy has been working on the site, setting the stage for a project that could supply a significant percentage of the heating and cooling needs for the museum the college is planning to replace the current facility at Lawrence Hall.   "The location of the test well is in the range

Mount Greylock School Committee Holds Initial FY25 Budget Talk
