Mount Greylock School Committee Prepares Fiscal 2020 Budget

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School District budget is tracking to deliver a 2.5 percent increase in its operating budget assessment to the town of Williamstown and a 2.2 percent hike to Lanesborough.   The School Committee held a budget workshop on Friday to pore over the budget line-by-line.   The bottom line for the preK-through-12 two-town district remains relatively unchanged, rising 1.1 percent from $24.1 million in fiscal 2019 to $24.4 million for FY20.   But the division of the operating budget for the middle-high school saw a major change that will impact how much money the district will seek from each of its member towns at this

Mount Greylock Announces Second Quarter Honor Roll

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mount Greylock Regional School has announced the honor roll for the second quarter of the 2018-19 school year.

Students are placed on the honor roll when their quarterly letter grades average a B or better, and when the student receives no grade lower than a B- in all graded classes. If students earn any grade of a C+ or lower, their names will not be placed on the honor roll. The student must be carrying a minimum of four graded courses to be eligible. Students who withdraw from a course are not eligible for the honor roll for one semester.

Berkshires Beat: SVMC Kicks Off Colorectal Cancer Screening Awareness Month

Employees at Southwestern Vermont Health Care gathered on Friday, March 1, for a photo to celebrate Dress in Blue Day in honor of Colorectal Cancer Screening Awareness Month. Dress in Blue Day was first observed in 2009. It is a program of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, and it is meant to raise awareness of the disease.

Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death among men and women in the United States. Americans of average risk and age 50 and older should be screened every 10 years. According to the American Cancer Society, if Americans followed screening recommendations, the colon cancer death rate could be cut in half.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Preschool began sprucing up its new home by hiring local sign maker Lindsay Neathawk, owner of Neathawk Signs and Design, to create a 3D sign for the business.

Neathawk installed the sign late Monday afternoon that features multicolored hand prints from the children as the leaves of a tree poking out of the top. Underneath the name and address "a place to grow" is written. The children's hand prints were taken at the school and Neathawk then scanned them into her design programs to create the sign.
