DANVERS, Mass. — Starting Thursday, residents 75-and-older who make appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations at one of the commonwealth's mass vaccination sites will be allowed to also make an appointment for a companion of any age to accompany them to the site and receive a vaccination of their own. Gov. Charlie Baker made the announcement on Wednesday during a visit to the mass vaccination site at the DoubleTree Hotel. He said the move was being made to encourage older Bay Staters who might be hesitant to attend one of the sites, like the one at Eastfield Mall in Springfield. The head of Elder Services of Merrimack Valley shared the podium with Baker and 1 Comment Read More >> |

It takes sustained commitment throughout every day of our practice and strong and productive relationships with physician colleagues and others in every department within 0 Comments Read More >> |

Williamstown Picks Police Investigator, Calls for Chief Advisory BoardBy Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff 02:37AM / Tuesday, February 09, 2021
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday agreed to hire Brookline attorney Judy Levenson to conduct an investigation into the allegations raised in a discrimination lawsuit filed against the town last year. In a separate conversation, the board and town manager agreed to extend a search for volunteers to serve an advisory committee to help Town Manager Jason Hoch select an interim chief for the Police Department. The investigation was sparked by a lawsuit filed in August by Police Sgt. Scott McGowan. The suit subsequently was dropped in December, and the board decided this winter to proceed with an independent, third-party probe into the issues McGowan raised, 1 Comment Read More >> |
BRTA Human Services Transport Scheduling Shifting to FitchburgBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff 01:01AM / Tuesday, February 09, 2021
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Regional Transit Authority is concerned about maintaining a personalized customer experience in the wake of a state-mandated change in specialized services. Starting in July, the Executive Office of Health and Human Services will enter a new contract with a brokerage area out of Fitchburg for Human Services Transportation. In 2019, the state department proposed the consolidation of six brokerage service areas that provide non-emergency "human service transportation" (HST) into three much larger service areas. Under the proposal, BRTA is in Human Service Area 1 that covers all of Western Mass and from Warwick in the north diagonally 0 Comments Read More >> |

BOSTON — Citizens could see the balance of the promised $2,000 in stimulus money hit their accounts by April 1. The payments of $1,400 are part of a $1.9 trillion stimulus package working its way through Congress. It follows up on the CARES Act passed last year to address COVID-19 needs and a $600 boost to families that both parties agreed to in the first days of the new year. "People are struggling, we need to hear their calls for help," said U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, speaking with Gov. Charlie Baker on Monday. Democrats, now in control of both the House and Senate, have opted to use the parliamentary procedure of reconciliation that will fast 0 Comments Read More >> |

Veterans Spotlight: Cpl. Tony PastoreBy Wayne Soares, Special to iBerkshires 06:04PM / Sunday, February 07, 2021
Tony Pastore was also a musician and a vocalist. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — I would confidently describe this week's Veterans Spotlight subject as one of the nicest, kindest, humblest and most gracious human beings I have ever met. Tony Pastore served his country in the Air Force during World War II and, again after the war, as a corporal. At 96 years of age, he is a pure gem of "The Greatest Generation" with a fabulous voice to boot. Born in Pittsfield, he enlisted on March 23, 1943, and was sent to Fort Devens in Ayer. From there, he went to basic training in Miami Beach, Fla. "We marched all day in the goddamn heat," he remembered. 0 Comments Read More >> |
@theMarket: Stocks Regain MomentumBy Bill Schmick, 04:16PM / Friday, February 05, 2021
What a difference one week makes! Stocks recouped all their losses this week, and then went on to make new highs. The outcome of President Biden's proposed stimulus bill will determine the market's next move. Let me set the record straight. Last week, I wrote that I expected stocks to stumble, and hopefully preparing readers for a possible decline of 10-15 percent. That was a mistake. Instead, traders bought last week's 3 percent dip and, at this point, we are now back to square one. Well, not quite. The U.S. dollar, the 10-Year U.S. Treasury Bond, and the price of gold have all moved substantially since last Friday. The greenback, as represented by the 0 Comments Read More >> |
