WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Sylvia Caesar Shugg, 90, a former longtime resident of Williamstown, died peacefully at home in Orono, Maine, in the early hours of Friday, June 30, 2017.
The daughter of Carleton Shugg and Sybil C. Shugg, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, mentor, and life-long learner. She will be remembered for her kind heart, curious mind, unique style, and love of all-things spiritual.
Ms. Shugg was in the first class at the Pine Cobble School. She spent several years working for Recording for the Blind, was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, and served as a patient representative at the former North Adams Hospital. She moved to Maine in 2002.
She leaves her four children, Susan Petty of Fort Worth, Texas, William Villanueva of Siler City, N.C., Robin Hamilton of Orono and Carl Villanueva of North Pownal, Vt.; her brother, Dr. Wallace Shugg of Baltimore; 11 eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as many who called her friend.
Her sister, Caro Curran of Buffalo, N.Y., passed away in 2015.
