Halsey G. McLain, 93

July 15, 2017


WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Halsey Grant McLain, 93, of Williamstown, Mass., died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Williamstown Commons.



He was born on October 30, 1923, in Williamstown, Mass., son to the late Albert F. and Abigail (Alger) McLain. He attended schools in Williamstown. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in Europe. Halsey worked as a supervisor at Warren Wire/ General Cable Company for many years and was last employed by Agway in Williamstown.



Mr. McLain was a member of the White Oaks Congregational Church in Williamstown and was a member of the Williamstown Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed fishing and music. In his younger years he played the mandolin and guitar in a band with his father and family.



On April 6, 1946, he married his wife, the former Marjorie Evelyn Darling. She died on December 30, 2008.



He is survived by his three daughters, Susan Merchant of Edenton, N.C., Colleen McLain of Williamstown, Mass., and Christine Higby of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; two sons, Donald McLain of Smyrna, N.Y., and Jeffrey McLain, his primary caregiver after his wife’s death, of Williamstown; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.



Nine of his brothers and sisters are deceased.



Funeral notice: A funeral service for Halsey McLain will be Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. at White Oaks Congregational Church in Williamstown. Burial with military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.



A calling hour will be at the church Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the Flynn and Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
