Herbert R. Roemelt, 91

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mr. Herbert R. Roemelt, 91, of Adams, died on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Williamstown Commons. 



He was born in Adams on October 27, 1926, son of the late Herbert and Emma (Fisher) Roemelt. He attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School with the class of 1945. 



Mr. Roemelt was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Navy until receiving his Honorable Discharge as Seaman First Class on June 30, 1946. He worked as a missile machinist for 42 years in the Naval Ordnance Division of General Electric Co., Pittsfield, until his retirement in 1986. 



He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, North Adams. He was also a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, Adams Post 160 American Legion, the Adams Turners and the Berkshire Lodge of Masons. 



He is survived by his wife of 70 years, the former Helen M. Strzepek, whom he married on June 14, 1947; a daughter, Maryellen Young and her husband Brant of Bennington, Vt.; a sister, Dorothy Leary of Providence, R.I.; two grandsons, Michael Roemelt and his wife Edda of Scotia, N.Y., and Bryan Roemelt of Washington D.C.; two great-grandsons, Jason and Bennett Roemelt; and two nieces, Bonnie Leary Seekell of Rhode Island and Linda Leary Hamm of Ohio



He was predeceased by his son, Paul Roemelt. 



Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at 10 a.m. in the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, officiated by Rev. Mary Frances Curns, Rector of All Saints Episcopal Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. 



Calling hours are Tuesday, May 8, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Pop Cares, P.O. Box 482, Williamstown, MA 01267 or to All Saints Episcopal Church, 59 Summer St., North Adams, MA 01247.
