GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Berkshire Bike and Board is finding a burgeoning market in e-bikes.   Electronic bicycles have been in existence for more than a decade but only recently has the technology begun to take hold in the Berkshires.   The bicycles are just like traditional bikes and made by traditional bike manufacturers. But they come with a small battery-powered motor attached to the crank to assist with the peddling.   "There are no throttles. You have to pedal to make them go. Racette Leads Drury Boys to Giorgi League Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Reece Racette had a double-double Thursday to lead the Drury boys basketball team to a 72-50 win over Hoosac Valley in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.   Racette scored 15 points to lead all scorers and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Blue Devils.   Hunter Sarkis scored 14, and Scott McGuire added 13 in the win.   Hoosac Valley got 14 points from Sam Larabee. Travis Dozier and Izaha Stubbs added 13 and 11, respectively.   In Thursday's other game, Toby Foehl scored 38 points to lead Mount Greylock to a 74-57 win over McCann Tech.   Foehl also pulled down eight rebounds. FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Lenox Memorial student Brock Baumann scored six goals and compiled nine assists in five games to lead the West team to a gold medal in the Bay State Games hockey tournament.   The West went 4-0 in pool play to earn the top seed in the medal round.   In the gold medal game, it beat Coastal, 14-3, to win the title.   McCann Tech's Caleb Rondeau finished the tournament with a goal and an assist for the West.

BOLTON, Mass. -- Nolan Barnes hit a grand slam Saturday to help lift the Lanesborough Bulldogs 8-and-under Cal Ripken baseball team to a Western Massachusetts State Championship.   In the championship tournament’s final game, Hudson took an early lead before Barnes’ homer knotted the score.   Kieran Johnson, Max Mozian and Joe Hatakeyama then each had big hits to put the Bulldogs ahead, 12-9.   Pitcher Jackson Sheehy did the rest, closing the door and not allowing a run in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.   The Bulldogs move on to the regional championship in Dedham, Mass., on July 21.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Brock Baumann scored four goals Thursday to help the West team earn a split in a pair of games to open the Bay State Games hockey tournament at the Foxboro Sports Center.   The West team lost to Coastal, 7-4, in its opener but bounced back with an 8-4 win over Metro/Northwest.   Caleb Rondeau scored a goal and assisted on another on Thursday.   The West team Friday morning is set to play the Coastal team again.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Toby Foehl scored 36 points and grabbed seven rebounds Thursday to lead the Mount Greylock boys basketball team to a 66-55 win over Hoosac Valley in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.   Mitchell Jezouit scored 12 in the win.   Hoosac Valley was led by Josh Paree's 16. Izaha Stubbs and Joe Delmolino scored 12 and 10, respectively.   In Thursday's other game, Drury defeated McCann Tech, 54-26.   Scott McGuire led the way with 20 points and eight boards. Reece Racette matched McGuire with eight rebounds and scored 15.   Bruce Davis scored nine points, and Keeghan Vidal had nine rebounds for McCann Tech.   League play continues

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire Force and Greylock Thunder will take the field on Thursday for the start of the four-day Babe Ruth New England Regional Softball Championships in the under-14 and under-16 divisions.   Up to 34 games will be played between Thursday and Sunday at the Doyle Complex on Benedict Road with two teams advancing from the regional to earn the right to play in the 2018 Babe Ruth World Series in Jensen Beach, Fla.   There are seven teams from five New England states competing in the U14 division.   The Greylock Thunder, representing Western Massachusetts, will meet the host Berkshire Force at 6 p.m. on Thursday to open the tournament.   Each team

The Berkshire Hills United 14-and-under boys soccer team won two games at the Division I level at the recent Massachusetts Tournament of Champions.   Eight teams from the county qualified for the event, and the Berkshire Hills United boys had the best results, going 2-1 with wins over Mashpee and Oakmont.   The Williamstown Lions U12 boys and Dalton U14 boys each received sportsmanship awards at the event.   Other teams qualifying included the Pittsfield Soccer Club Foxes U12 girls, Lenox Youth Football Club Gold U12 girls, Pittsfield Soccer Club Gunners U12 boys, Pittsfield Soccer Club Hammers U14 girls and Dalton U14 boys.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Purple Valley Aquatics hosted its annual USA Swimming sponsored meet at Williams College June 9-10.   This year PVA had many returning athletes and some new faces on deck as well. Swimming in their first meet ever were Sylvie Clowes and Mia Harding, who each had amazing races, competing in the 50-meter freestyle and 50 backstroke. Graham Maramag had many notable swims and placed seventh in the boys 12 and under 100 butterfly.   Harper Stevenson, who already has qualified to swim at the Long Course Age Group Championship meet in July, dropped 7 seconds in her 100 backstroke.
