WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- American Legion Post 152 recently began sponsoring a competitive youth pistol team.   Fourteen youngsters ages 11 to 15 participate on the team, which practices at North Adams American Legion Post 125.   A 2017 Junior Olympics competitor will be the guest speaker at the team's March 15 practice.

SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- The Greylock boys seventh- and eighth-grade boys travel basketball team wrapped up its season by Adams, 57-53, in the championship game of the Grap Passetto Memorial Tournament at the Berkshire School.   “This weekend was a great way to go out,” Greylock coach Rick Paris said. “Originally we were possibly not going to play in the tournament but decided to play in the end, which ended up paying off. We were without our big Thomas Martin for the entire pool play as he was still recovering from his knee injury which he hurt during the county championships.   “He may not score a lot but he’s a huge part of our defense and rebounding.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- On Saturday, nine Berkshire County competitors represented local councils from towns of Adams, Cheshire, Dalton, Pittsfield, Lenox and Lee competed at the Western Mass Regional Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship at St. Thomas the Apostle School.

Ahna Balcom of Council No. 103 from Pittsfield and Grace Julieano and Cliff Flynn of of Council 314 of Lenox each won their age group and will represent Berkshire County at the State Championship this year.

Emily Glasier of Cheshire, who represented Council No. 230 of Northern Berkshire, placed second in her division at the regional competition.

The state tournament will be held Saturday, April 14, at Anna Maria

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. -- Williams College senior Marc Talbott represented the Ephs on Day 1 of the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Colorado on Wednesday.   Williams coach Kelsey Levine praised Talbott's top 15 finish in the first NCAA Championship of his career.   "Marc skied so well," Levine said. LENOX, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Youth Soccer League needs referees for the 2018 season.     A new referee course will be held at the Hampton Inn in Lenox on March 18. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College men's basketball (23–5) team defeated Bridgewater State (18–10), 56-45, Friday in the first round of the NCAA tournament.   After a sluggish start, a strong second half, along with a season-high 10 steals on defense, took the Ephs through to the next round.   "This is a seasoned group now," Williams coach Kevin App said. "We've proven we can weather those storms when shots aren't going in, and we've proven how reliable our defense is when we're locked in."   In the first half, the Bears employed a combination of man-to-man and zone defenses to keep the Eph offense in check.

HARTFORD, Conn. - Williams College fought its way to a No. 21-ranked finish at the 2018 men’s squash nationals.   The Ephs competed in the third division of the tournament, which meant they were playing for the No. 17-24 postions nationally.   The Ephs opened their nationals campaign with a nail-biting loss to Middlebury in a match that for the whole day felt like it could have one either way. Hoosac Valley graduate Trevor Ciempa has had a successful indoor track and field campaign at Merrimack College this winter.   The Merrimack senior won the high jump, tying the school record of 2.04 meters, at the Northeast-10 Championships. His score helped the team place fourth out of 11 teams at the meet.
