MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Williams returned to conference play today, facing Middlebury after an undefeated West Coast spring break trip. The team extended their perfect record to 12-0, winning 7-2.

Williams got out to an early lead, winning two out of the three doubles matches. The top two pairs played with confidence that has been the story throughout this season. Shoemaker/Curran took won their match 8-4, while Pylypiv/Elkins won 8-1.

The depth of this team is evident, as Coach Swain emphasized their “competitive composure across the board.” The top two Ephs players faced tough competition, with both matches needing three sets to decide a winner. Despite losing her first set 3-6, Shoemaker rebounded to win the next two 6-3, 6-2. Unfortunately, Elkins was on the other end, losing 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-1. Other singles winners were Shin, Pylypiv, Curran and Pastor.

“Middlebury played very tough tennis and fought throughout the match. They are a great team and this is a great win for us,” said Coach Swain.
