NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has been awarded a $26,000 grant from the Massachusetts Department of Education to fund its participation in the Commonwealth Dual Enrollment Program during the 2015 fiscal year.

Through the program, academically qualified high school juniors and seniors can register for one or more classes at MCLA free of charge, receive an introduction to college life and the academic expectations of a college course, while earning college credits.

“The Dual Enrollment Program provides an early college experience to high school sstudents and prepares them for college level work,” said Monica Joslin, dean of academic affairs at MCLA. “In addition to providing an early college experience, the program inspires students to continue their education and enroll in college while allowing them to earn college credits.”

Local high school students who complete courses through the dual enrollment program can apply those credits toward their college career if they choose to attend MCLA. These credits also may be accepted by other colleges and universities.

Students who are in their junior or senior year of high school, who have maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and who have a letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor, are eligible to apply to the program.

Qualified students may enroll in MCLA day classes. Space is limited, based on available seats in the courses offered. Funding to cover the cost of books is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Enrollment for the spring program will begin in November. Those interested should contact Josh Mendel in the Office of Admission at 413-662-5410. For more information about MCLA, go to www.mcla.edu.
