WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Down a goal early, the Williams men's soccer team rallied for a pair of second-half tallies to defeat Wesleyan 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for Williams (6-4-1, 4-2-0 NESCAC) was midfielder Chris Conder, who assisted on both Eph goals and played tenaciously on the wing to help curb the Cardinals' strong start to the game. Conder's pair of helpers gave him four on the season, good for 4th in the NESCAC; last year, he finished third in the same category, with six assists.

"Chris hasn't played the same minutes he played last year, but he buys into the whole 'team' philosophy," said Eph coach Mike Russo after the game. "He was just fantastic."

The game also had a special significance for Conder, whose mother was visiting from his native England. "I'm trying to impress her," said Conder. "She needs to stay here for another month or so," joked Russo.

Conder's best sequence came just shy of the hour mark, when he set up the game-winner. The senior dribbled past a pair of Cardinal defenders on the left side and absorbed a hard, high tackle from Ben Toulotte, who was whistled for a foul. On the ensuing free kick, Conder drove a low, curling free kick into the box that found the head of a diving Luke Pierce, whose effort fluttered past goalie Emmett McConnell, off the far post and just over the goal line to give the Ephs a well-deserved 2-1 lead.

Christian Alcorn stopped two shots for Williams. Emmett McConnell made one save for Wesleyan (6-4-1, 4-2).

WOMEN'S SOCCER
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Audrey Thomas scored two goals to lead the Williams women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Wesleyan on Saturday.

Alex McInturf and Lindsey Vandergrift each had a goal, and Hannah Van Wetter stopped two shots for Williams (9-1, 4-1 NESCAC).

Two keepers combined for eight saves for the Cardinals (1-8-1, 0-5-1).

FIELD HOCKEY
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Caitlin Conlon scored two goals and Allie Holle had two assists to lead the Williams field hockey team to a 4-1 win over Wesleyan on Saturday.

Kit Rosen and Rachel Brissette each scored a goal for Williams (7-3, 4-2), who got five saves from Margaret Draper.

Sara Grundy made five saves for Wesleyan (3-7, 2-4).

FOOTBALL
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Middlebury went 60 yards in 1 minute, 16 seconds to tie the game with 59 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and outscored Williams, 6-3, in overtime to earn a 23-20 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (2-2) tied it on a 2-yard pass from Matt Milano to Drew Jacobs.

Then in OT, after Williams (1-3) went ahead on a 22-yard Joseph Mallock field goal, Milano hit Ben Rankowitz for a 14-yard TD to win the game.

Milno completed 19 of 37 passes for 155 yards while Jonathan Hurvitz and Drew Jacobs each ran for more than 80 yards for Middlebury.

Austin Lommen threw for 234 yards, and Lewis Hayes ran for 116 for Williams, which goes on the road the next two weeks before playing its Homecoming game against Wesleyan on Nov. 1.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
AMHERST, Mass. –  Williams' women's tennis team defeated rival Amherst, 5-4, on Saturday.

Amherst jumped out to an early lead in doubles, claiming two of the three matches. Amherst's No. 1 pair took down ITA/USTA doubles champions Rebecca Curran and Maria Pylypiv, 8-1. The freshman pairing of Juli Raventos and Julia Cancio won its match, however, 8-3. The final doubles match was a tight one, ending in a 9-7 score that gave the Jeffs a 2-1 lead.

In singles, Williams got wins from Maria Phylypiv, Julia Cancio, Rebecca Curran and Giulia McDonnell.

Williams will finish its season next weekend with NEWITTS held at Mount Holyoke and Smith.
