Williams Men Beat MCLA; Williams Women Move to 6-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Coming off an overtime victory over rival Wesleyan, the Williams College men's basketball team defeated the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Trailblazers, 82-71, on Tuesday evening.
 
A total of 50 fouls were called in the game, and the teams combined to shoot 63 free throws; Williams converted 87.8 percent from the stripe, giving the Ephs (3-2) a distinct advantage over the Trailblazers (1-2), who only made 68.2 percent of their foul shots.
 
Hayden Rooke-Ley led all scorers with 26 points, 16 of which came from his perfect performance from the charity stripe, while Adam Conquest led the Trailblazers with 15 points. Ryan Kilcullen for the Ephs and Todd Hunt for MCLA each recorded a game-high nine rebounds.
 
Williams shot 40.8 percent from the field, while MCLA converted 42.6 percent of their field goal attempts. The biggest difference came in free throw percentage, where Williams outperformed MCLA 87.8 percent to 68.2 percent.
 
MCLA will host NYU on Saturday, while Williams next faces Skidmore College on Saturday as part of a tournament at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
 
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The 13th-ranked Williams College women's basketball team defeated Springfield, 62-46, on Tuesday to improve to 6-0 on the season
 
Devon Caveney was the Ephs’ star of the night; her 28 points were a career high, not to mention the most scored in a game by an Eph on the young season. Caveney has notched at least 15 points in all three of the Ephs’ contests at Chandler Gym so far this season, and she leads Williams heading into the Thanksgiving break with 12.7 points per game.
 
North Adams' Danielle Racette had two rebounds and two assists in 11 minutes of work for the Pride (0-3).
 
Springfield next plays on Dec. 3 at Smith. Williams will renew its 2014-15 campaign on Sunday afternoon, when the Ephs will travel south to take on Eastern Connecticut State at 3 p.m.
