AMHERST, Mass. -- After a close game that saw them down for much of the second half, the Amherst College men's basketball team (12-4, 2-2) defeated the Williams College Ephs (11-6, 2-2) 86-76 in overtime on Wednesday.

With less than two minutes to play in regulation, Reid Berman converted a three-point play to give Amherst a 70-69 lead, but Daniel Aronowitz answered with a pair of foul shots. After David George finished in the paint for Amherst, Berman added another layup to put the Lord Jeffs up by three in the final minute, but Daniel Wohl sunk a clutch 3-pointer to tie the game at 74 and send it to overtime.

In the extra period, however, Connor Green took over, scoring 10 points as Amherst outscored Williams 12-2. Williams couldn't get their shots to fall or snag offensive rebounds.

Wohl led Williams with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Aronowitz contributed an impressive performance as well, notching 21 points.

Williams will next face Hamilton in Clinton, N.Y., on Saturday.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Jaimie Renner scored 19 points to lead four Amherst players in double figures in a 65-51 win over Williams on Wednesday night.

Williams (14-4, 2-2) earned a 43-37 rebounding advantage thanks to three players -- Devon Caveney, Katie Litman and Oge Uwanaka -- grabbing seven apiece.

But Amherst (16-1, 3-1) shot 38 percent from 3-point range (6-for-16) and forced 21 turnovers while coughing up the ball just 11 times.

Williams hosts Hamilton on Saturday at 3 p.m., part of the celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day at the college.
