WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williamstown Cal Ripken iBerkshires.com Rookie Team had a strong finish to their season, which included two of three innings with three defensive outs against a strong Pownal team.
Continuing a team tradition going back several years, coaches Steve Miller and Bernie Rhie presented players with certificates highlighting their contributions.
Krishiv Malhotra: Bert "Campy" Campaneris award for his incredible versatility in playing strong defense in every position.
Akosh Olchvary: Ozzie Smith award for wizardly defense in the field.
Kayla Miller: Cy Young award for great defensive plays from the pitcher's mound (previously won by her brother Cameron and keeping it in the family).
Polly Rhie: Vladimir Guererro award for consistently hitting balls outside the strike zone for extra base hits.
Julian Rudin: Ricky Henderson award for phenomenal speed and alertness on the base paths.
Zeb Staneff: Dustin Pedroia award for stellar defense keeping hit after hit in the infield.
Charlotte Coody: David Ortiz award for her powerful big lefty bat.
Additionally, two farm team prospects, Annabelle Coody and Amy Staneff, played several innings with the team throughout the season, and shared the Gold Dust Twin award for players who, in the spirit of Fred Lynn and Jim Rice, stepped up as a rookie and helped the team.
