WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Three players from New York's Capital District are in the top five after Day 1 of the PGA Junior Series event at Taconic Golf Club.

Broadalbin's Alex Bond is tied with Pennsylvanian Nate Menon at 1-under 70 after the first round.

Austin Fox of Delmar and Tanner Donovan are tied for third and fifth, respectively, at 2-over and 3-over in the boys 15-18 age division.

Among the girls, returner Maya Walton is back on top of the leaderboard after a 2-over round of 73. She leads Auburn, N.Y.'s., Lindsay May, who carded a 78.

In addition to the older boys competition, there is a division for 12- to 14-year-olds. Mount Greylock rising freshman Ben Gilooly is third out of a four-boy field after Day 1, six strokes behind the leader, Winchester's Trevor Lopez.

In the older boys division, Mount Greylock's Matt Wiseman and Kyle Alvarez each ended the first day with some work to do. They placed 51st and 59th, respectively.

Play continues on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. with the final round scheduled for Thursday.

The winners in the girls and older boys divisions receive exemptions to the PGA Junior Championship later this summer.
