WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Williams College Saturday hosted Middlebury, Skidmore, Vassar and Wesleyan today in the first of the two-day Lindsay Morehouse ‘00 Invitational.

The tournament is named in honor of former Eph tennis captain and standout Lindsay Morehouse, a 2000 Williams alumna and one of three Williams alumni who died in New York City in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Morehouse was a teammate of current Eph head coach Alison Swain.

The Morehouse Invitational is a two-day flighted round robin event in both singles and doubles.  The draw is set up as a round robin where the winners of each round are fed into play winners, and the losers of each round are fed into play other losers.

The Morehouse Invite is a unique kick-off to the season, with no overall tournament winner crowned at the end.

“Instead the goal is to celebrate the start of a new season of tennis and allow all players to get in multiple match plays and allow all the teams to bring their entire rosters to compete”, Swain said.

On Sunday, there will be one round of singles followed by two rounds of doubles to complete the tournament.

VOLLEYBALL
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Williams College women's volleyball team improved to 4-1 on Saturday wit wins over SUNY Oneonta and Skidmore.

Next weekend marks the start of the Ephs' home schedule and NESCAC play as they host Tufts on Friday and Connecticut College on Saturday.

GOLF

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Williams College kicked off the 2015 fall golf season with its Williams Invitational on Saturday at Taconic Golf Club.

Conditions were difficult due to heavy rain in the latter half of the day.

Rhode Island College holds the overnight lead and the distinction of being the only team to shoot below 300, posting an impressive 14-over  298. Three Rhode Island golfers played their way into the top 20 individually, led by senior Jonathan Cooper, who recorded a 72, one stroke off of the overall individual lead.

Salem State's Tony Conigliari carded an even-par round of 71 to lead all individuals and lead the Vikings into second place, two strokes behind RIC.

Ross Hoffman, a member of the Williams A team and the 2013 champion of the Williams Invitational, began his tournament with a 72, priming himself for another run at the title.

Forecasts for Sunday are again calling for less than ideal conditions. Rain, wind, and even hail could be among a list of adversities that competitors will have to overcome, a list that may also include hazards, bunkers, and the tricky greens of Taconic Golf Club.

MEN'S SOCCER
HARTFORD, Conn, – The Williams College men's soccer team rang up its second straight 2-0 win on the season downing NESCAC foe Trinity with goals from Mark Sisco-Tolomeo and Mohammed Rashid.

The Ephs (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC) netted one goal in the first half and one goal in the second half. The first Eph goal came off a cross from freshman Gregory Andreou that was headed on past Trinity keeper Mateo Zalaba. Sisco-Tolomeo's goal, which turned out to be the game-winner was tallied at 20:50.

Eph netminder Christian Alcorn denied eight shots on goal by the Bantams (2-1, 0-1), while Trinity's Mateo Zabala stopped 10 of 12 shots by the Ephs.

Williams returns to action on Sept. 15 when it hosts Skidmore on Cole Field in a contest slated to kickoff at 4:30 p.m.
