SKIING
STOWE, Vt. -- The third carnival of the 2016 EISA season began with just the Alpine events this weekend.

On Friday, the Williams skiers competed against their peers at Mount Mansfield in giant slalom and returned Saturday for slalom. As of now, the Williams ski team is in ninth with 188 points while Dartmouth leads with 464. However, the Nordic team, who had a weekend off from carnival racing, will be sure to add a significant amount of points to the mix next weekend for the second part of the UVM carnival at the Trapp Family Lodge.

The young women's Alpine team continued to shine; the skiers' youth in a sport full of seasoned veterans did not deter them in the slightest. On Friday, freshman Isabel Torres continued her superb season by leading the Williams skiers with a 15th place finish. She had two very consistent runs of 1:08.42 for 20th place in the entire field (including non-collegiate skiers) and, when the entire field sped up due to varying conditions, a second run of 1:07.06, 21st fastest of the day.

The Williams men, on the other hand, struggled on Friday but rebounded in Saturday's slalom, managing to secure a full scoring team, headed by freshman Bryan Bailey in 15th. Bailey's total time was 1:54.86, less than five seconds back from Max Roeislad of UVM who won the race in 1:50.23. Sophomore Charlie Sheils also had a standout performance, coming in 29th with a total time of 2:01.36 while classmate Marc Talbott rounded out the scoring
