To the Editor:
I plan to vote for the Waubeeka petition at our Williamstown town meeting as amendments are worked out on the floor.
It is the best way to actually preserve open space possibilities as well as perhaps "banking" the land for the future as climate change brings more challenges to food production. It certainly would not hurt to realize the revenue off of the planned proposal if it could find a responsible developer.
I also intend to vote for Sarah Gardner as I believe she brings a perspective on land use issues that is very important to have on the Planning Board. Climate change is real, migration of people is and will be real, and we need to begin to look at "development" not just as putting up buildings, but also making sure that we have our farming needs covered.
Our children and grandchildren will see a time where up to half of our food production is done with urban farming and smaller rural farms. Vote for the Waubeeka petition as well as Sarah Gardner. I am speaking on my own behalf and not as a Williamstown Finance Committee member.
