Northern Berkshire United Way Executive Director Joseph McGovern speaks at the 2015 annual meeting.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Northern Berkshire United Way Executive Director Joseph McGovern is leaving his post, effective June 10.

McGovern has accepted a new position as executive director of The Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County in Aberdeen, Md.

“It’s with a mixture of respect, pride, sadness, and thanks, that we make this announcement,” says Amy Giroux, president of the Northern Berkshire United Way Board of Directors. “Joe has made a tremendous impact on our organization and leaves the Northern Berkshire United Way well-positioned to continue its mission.”

McGovern joined the Northern Berkshire United Way in May of 2010. Over the past six years he has been focused on building the relationship with the 20 member agencies the Northern Berkshire United Way currently partners with and supporting their efforts.

“One of Joe’s greatest accomplishments was helping the Board of Directors strategically position the Northern Berkshire United Way for future success," Giroux said. "Our Board of Directors has worked extremely hard over the last 18 to 24 months to ensure the sustainability and future success of our agency in supporting the people of North County.”

McGovern will continue his work at the Northern Berkshire United Way through June 10. The Board of Directors will develop a transition plan in the coming days and will keep all Northern Berkshire United Way stake holders updated on the plan.
