LANESBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Lanesborough Bulldogs stayed in the winners bracket and South Berkshire stayed alive on Day 2 of the Cal Ripken Baseball Western Massachusetts 12-and-Under Championship Saturday at Bill Laston Field.

Lanesborough 7, Greenfield 4

Panayiotis Constantopoulos and Jack Gitterman each homered and drove in a pair of runs as the Bulldogs won their second game of the double-elimination tournament.

“Our big inning came in the third,” Lanesborough coach Rick Paris said. “With two out and none on, Derek Paris hit a curve ball into left. Then Landen Jamula hit a line drive down the third base line, scoring Derek. Then Panay hit a two-run homer to give us three runs with two out.

“That was huge.”

Thomas Martin drove in Tristan Gardner for an insurance run in the fourth before Gitterman homered in a pair in the sixth.

Constantopoulos struck out 11 in six innings of work on the mound for Lanesborough, which plays Sunday at 1 p.m. for a berth in Tuesday’s championship.

South Berkshire 6, Greenfield 5

Roberto Barron hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the fifth to help South Berkshire eliminate Greenfield from the tourney.

Barron also struck out seven in three innings of work on the mound before giving way to Daniel Munch, who picked up the win, allowing two runs on three hits over six innings.

Colin Durkin had two hits and an RBI for South Berkshire, which plays Narragansett at 10 a.m. Sunday. The winner will play again at 4 p.m. to win the losers bracket and advance to the final. The loser goes home.
