Letter: Our Future Is in Good Hands

To the Editor:

As we all grow a little bit older and maybe a little bit wiser, we often wonder "What has happened to our world?"

We say things like "These kids today are lazy and spend all their time playing with that 'thing.' " Sometimes I would worry myself as to what kind of world my grandchildren would live in.

After this weekend, I feel much better about the future. You may ask why.

First I had the opportunity to attend the production of "The Wiz" at the Berkshire Museum in conjunction with Barrington Stage. The young people that were in the play were some of the most talented and hardest working future citizens I have seen.

I also had the opportunity to attend a turkey dinner (delicious) put on by the residents of Readsboro, Vt. There were many wonderful volunteers helping to make the dinner a success. Two of the volunteers stuck out. One was a young man who works at one of the local ambulance services who just completed his training to become a police officer and wants to serve his community.

The other was a young lady who also works full time at a local ambulance service while at the same time attending college to be a nurse and wants to specialize in helping women have babies.

Both giving of their time to help others.

I urge everyone to see "The Wiz" to see the hands our future leaders

I urge everyone to support the many hard working students of today who are our future.

Jim Boyle
Cheshire, Mass.
