NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Housatonic took home two titles from this weekend's John Gaudreau Memorial Youth Basketball Tournament.

Housatonic beat the Boys Club in the boys third- and fourth-grade final and topped Adams in the boys seventh/eigth grade final.

The South County program also reached the title game in the fifth/sixth grade bracket, where the Dalton Blue team prevailed to take the title.

In the third/fourth grade girls competition, host North Adams defeated the Girls Club in Monday's championship game.

The Greylock seventh/eighth team advanced to the quarter-finals, where they were edged by Adams, 54-52, in a game where Carson Meczywor scored 33 points for Adams.

"This was a hard fought game where we had two starters foul out and three others in serious foul trouble," Greylock coach Rick Paris said. "Malcom Waynick was our leading scorer with seven huge points in the fourth before fouling out late.

"But our kids never gave up, even down by nine with only a few minutes left. We had two big 3s from Derek [Paris], and then he hit two free throws after being fouled behind the arc to get us within two. We then fouled Adams, and they missed both to give us a chance to tie or win, but we just missed the tying bucket at the buzzer."

Paris finished with 13 points for Greylock, which got 11 from Pablo Santos.

"Carson Meczywor is just a tough kid who you can't let get going," Rick Paris said. "Once he starts hitting his shot, he becomes that much more difficult to defend."

Adams went on to beat Dalton in the semi-finals.

Greylock's weekend included a win over Pittsfield's CYC, 56-29. Paris scored 18, and Oscar Low had 12 for Greylock, while James Connors led CYC with seven.

Anthony Pettengill scored 23 for host North Adams in a 79-43 loss to Greylock, which got nine apiece from Alex Axt and Patrick Ross.

Greylock started the tournament against eventual champ Housatonic, which got 16 from Ty Higgins and 13 from Dion Brown in a 65-42 win.
