PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The popular community walking program, Berkshire Health Systems' Walk with Me in the Berkshires, is returning for its 15th year in late March, where it is expected that more than 3,500 people from across the region will participate in a program aimed at improving health and well-being through walking.

Community registration for the Walk with Me program is Tuesday, March 28, beginning at 10 a.m. sharp on the iBerkshires website. Up to 2,400 people from the community, formed as teams of between two and 20 people each, will receive a free step counter and be able to log-in to a step-reporting site on iBerkshires in order to participate in the six week walking program.

Each week, the team captain reports the steps accumulated for each of his or her team members, and continues to do so for the six week period. The walking begins on Monday, April 18, and continues until Sunday, May 28. Each participant receives a free t-shirt, which have become very popular and can be seen around the Berkshires and beyond.

Walk with Me in the Berkshires also has a parallel walking program for employees of Berkshire Health Systems, bringing the total walkers to over 3,500 a year. The BHS participants register separately through their Wellness portal and do not take up slots in the community program.

Registration for the community program is on a first-come basis, and the registration system automatically closes upon reaching the 2,400 registration point. In order to participate, individuals should form teams of between two and 20 people and assign a team captain to complete the online registration. Team captains should have the following information available when registering: names and city or town of residence for each participant, age range for all team members, and t-shirt size requested for each participant.

Sponsors for the 2017 Walk with Me in the Berkshires program are Fallon Health, which has generously sponsored the purchase of step counters, Greylock Federal Credit Union, the Berkshire Eagle, Bennington Banner, Fairview Commons, North Adams Commons, Hillcrest Commons, Williamstown Commons, Mt. Greylock Extended Care, Kimball Farms of Lenox and Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, HospiceCare in the Berkshires, Troy’s Promotions, iBerkshires and Boxcar Media.
