Democrats Meeting Across Berkshire County

Democratic town committees have been meeting and preparing for the Massachusetts Democratic Party Endorsing Convention and hosting other events across Berkshire County. The following is a sample:

Adams

The Adams Democratic Town Committee held its annual caucus to elect delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party Endorsing Convention being held in June in Worcester. The caucus was run by Town Democratic Chair Ed Driscoll, and elected six delegates and one alternate. They are: Charles Forsman (7 Columbia Terrace), Joe Nowak (78 East Hoosac St.), John Zelazo (22 Summitt Ave.), Adele Michaud (5 Dubis St.), Melissa Mendes (7 Columbia Terrace), Andrea Filkins (195 East Road), and Jon Duval; alternate (22 Powers St.).

During the Town Committee meeting the group heard a presentation from Harvey Keisch, registered nurse, about staffing issues at BMC. Mendes and Forsman endorsed Setti Warren for governor. Representatives from state Sen. Adam Hinds's, Congressmen Richard Neal's and Sen. Elizabeth Warren's offices attended as well. Local party activists Matt Russett and AJ Erichill were in attendance as well.

North Adams

The North Adams Democratic City Committee will hold its March 1 meeting at the Richmond Grille in the Holiday Inn, 40 Main St., beginning at 6 p.m. On the agenda is the election of a male co-chair and an affirmative action and outreach advisor on the executive committee. There will also be a discussion of future plans and feedback from the community.

Pittsfield

Democrats in Pittsfield will gather next month to elect delegates and alternates to the 2018 Massachusetts Democratic Party Endorsing Convention. The convention will take place at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass., on June 1 and 2.

The Pittsfield Democratic Committee Ward caucuses for Wards 1 through 7 will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, at the Pittsfield American Legion located at 41 Wendell Ave. in Pittsfield.

All registered Democrats in Pittsfield wards are eligible, and the Pittsfield Democratic Committee welcomes all participants. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women, and all ballots will be written and secret. Youth, minorities and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be "add-on" delegates. Sheffield

The Sheffield Democratic Committee will sponsor a meeting between state Sen. Adam Hinds (D.-Pittsfield) and Berkshires residents at the Bushnell-Sage Library in Sheffield on Monday, March 5, at 6 p.m. This will be the first in a series of events featuring elected officials and activists in the Berkshires.

The Sheffield Democratic Committee urges all Berkshires residents, regardless of their political affiliation, to take advantage of this unique opportunity to meet Senator Hinds in person about the important issues facing Massachusetts and the nation. The Bushnell-Sage Library is located at 48 Main St.
