HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Williams College women's golf team has climbed to within four shots of first place Claremont Mudd Scripps after the third round of the four-round NCAA DIII Tournament.

The Ephs entered Thursday's day three trailing CMS by five shots.

On the day the Ephs were 23 over par and CMS was 24 over par, giving CMS a three-day total of 944 and the Ephs a score of 948. George Fox University, the top seeded team in the tourney, has crawled back into contention shooting a third round best team score of +13 and they now sit four shots behind the Ephs and eight behind CMS with a score of 952.

CMS managed to hold off the Ephs due to a stellar round from Margaret Loncki who finished the day with a one under par 72. Loncki counter balanced a double bogey and thee bogeys with six birdies, including four birdies on the front nine.

"Overall, the team was playing well, making good decisions, and hitting good shots," Williams coach Tomas Adalsteinsson said. "We needed a few more shots to fall for us to score well. We are excited for tomorrow and finishing strong."

Holly Davenport led the Eph charge when she carded a team best four over par. Davenport made the turn at three over par and then she posted two birdies on the back nine to finish the longer nine just one over par. Her 77 today gives Davenport a three-round score of +14 and she is currently in sixth place on the individual leader board in this her first NCAA appearance.

Senior Phoebe Mattana authored another solid round, finishing five over on the day with a 78. Mattana shook off a round opening bogey on the first hole to make the turn at just two over. Having overcome a slow start in her first round Mattana has fought her way back into the top 25 in individual play as she is currently tied for 22nd place with classmate Liz Gudas.

"Today was a grind, with the high heat and wind swirling," Mattana said. "I think day three is always a mental challenge, but I'm excited for tomorrow. Our team does best with a little final day pressure and I know we can pull it off."

Gudas erased a double bogey on the third hole with birdies on five and six and made the turn at even par. Notching just one par on the first four holes of the back nine Gudas closed out the back nine with five straight pars to shoot 79.

Cori Chan struggled out of the gate with a double bogey on the first hole. Four more bogeys on the front nine left Chan at 6 over par at the turn. Chan steadied her game on the back nine, going just two over to finish the day at 81. Chan is currently tied for 13th place on the individual leader board.

Isabella Wang opened with a seven over par front nine and closed with a six over back nine to shoot 86 on the day.

Friday in the fourth and final round the Ephs will be paired again with CMS and for the first time with George Fox University when they go off the first tee starting at 9:10 a.m.
