PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Girls Inc. of the Berkshires awarded scholarship to 10 young women at its annual Ruth P. Boraksi Celebration Evening on May 3. The event recognizes the achievements of young women throughout Berkshire County and awarded scholarships through the Ruth P. Boraski Funds for Girls and on behalf of area community partners.
Receiving Ruth P. Boraski Funds for Girls Inc. Scholarships were Sarah Beckwith and Marya Makuc from Mt. Everett Regional High School; Janayah Burgess and Molly Clement from Taconic High School; Danielle LaBlanc from Pittsfield High School; and Sophie Shron from Monument Mountain High School.
On behalf of area partners, scholarships were awarded to Danna Toledo of Lenox Memorial High School, who received the Girls Inc. of the Berkshires/Berkshire Community College scholarship; Bryanna McKearney from Taconic High School, who received the Girls Inc. of the Berkshires/MCLA Scholarship; Lauren Edwards of Mt. Everett Regional High School, who received the Girls Inc. of the Berkshires/Rotary Club of Pittsfield scholarship; and Jenna Charron of Hoosac Valley High School, who received the Girls Inc. of the Berkshires/Zonta Club of the Berkshires scholarship.
Girls Inc. of the Berkshires is a core program of the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center and an affiliate of the national Girls Inc. organization. As an affiliate, Girls Inc. provides innovative, hands-on programming in a girls-only environment primarily addressing healthy sexuality, economic literacy, violence prevention and substance abuse prevention. Programs help girls confront subtle societal messages about their value and potential.
