WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants has awarded a Williamstown student a scholarship from the MSCPA Educational Foundation.

This year, the Educational Foundation reached $1 million in scholarship dollars distributed to deserving students during the past 12 years. The students will each receive up to $2,500 to further his or her accounting education.

The mission of the MSCPA’s Educational Foundation is to inspire and support the next generation of CPAs in Massachusetts.  Fifty-one students were selected for the 2018 round of scholarships, a high-water mark for the Educational Foundation.

Suni Ton from Williamstown, currently a student at UMass Amherst, received a "Women in Accounting Scholarship." Also from Berkshire County, Bryanah Haeleigh Johnson from Dalton, a student at Framingham State University, also received a "Women in Accounting Scholarship."

"The Society is proud to support young people who will be the future of the CPA profession," said Amy Pitter, president and CEO of the MSCPA. "Becoming a CPA opens up lots of opportunities in a variety of fields, and we’re excited to support students along their journey."

MSCPA scholarships are available for both undergraduate and graduate accounting students who are attending a college or university in Massachusetts or attending a college or university out-of-state with a permanent residence in Massachusetts. Scholarship funds are issued directly to the students and can be used for tuition, books, interviewing expenses or other needs.
