CARY, N.C. -- Mount Greylock Regional School freshman Derek Paris caught two scoreless innings for Team New England on Friday at the USA Baseball National 14-and-under tryouts.

 

Paris grounded out in his only at-bat, and the New Englanders dropped an 8-1 decision to Southwest in their first action of the tournament.

 

Southwest scored five runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.

 

Paris and the New England squad take on North Texas on Saturday morning.
