CARY, N.C. -- Mount Greylock Regional School freshman Derek Paris wrapped up his weekend at the USA Baseball National 14-and-under tryouts with a 4-1 loss by Team New England against North Florida.
Paris caught the first and second innings of the loss, finishing up a strong defensive performance for the Lanesborough resident.
"Derek had a great time, and it was a valuable experience playing against such great players from around the country," said his dad Rick, an assistant coach in the Mount Greylock program who made the trip to North Carolina.
Paris played 13 innings in four games in the field, committing no errors and recording five putouts. Behind the plate, Paris was one-for-one throwing out runners attempting to steal.
At the plate, he went 1-for-5 with a walk, and he stole a base and scored a run for New England.
