BerkshireWorks Marks National Employ Older Workers Week

Leading up to the fair, the BerkshireWorks Career Center will offer several special events in honor of older workers, all in conjunction with National Employ Older Workers Week, the last full week of September.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — BerkshireWorks, in collaboration with Elder Services of Berkshire County, Age Friendly Berkshires and AARP of Massachusetts, is hosting a 50-Plus Job Fair, featuring companies that are age-friendly or thinking about developing a multi-generational workforce.

The targeted job seekers who are looking for full-time or part-time work will be able to use their age and experience to their advantage. Job seekers will also have the opportunity to learn about free resources from AARP and other organizations to help with their job search.

In Berkshire County, 40 percent of the population is over the age of 50 and many are actively looking for employment opportunities both full and part time.

The job fair will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Berkshire Athenaeum at 1 Wendell Ave. For a complete list of participating businesses and organizations, visit the website.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, this week recognizes the role of older workers in the workforce and aims to increase awareness of this labor segment and develops innovative strategies to tap in.

All workshops and events are free of charge and held at the Career Center unless otherwise noted below:

* Thursday, Sept. 20: Resume Basics, Interview Tips & Q&A, 10 a.m.-noon

* Monday, Sept. 24: Job Club, topic is 50 Plus Job Fair Tips, 10-11 a.m., North Adams

* Monday, Sept. 24: Job Club, topic is 50 Plus Job Fair Tips, 1-2 p.m.
