Williams Women's Swimming Tops Amherst

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williams College women's swimming and diving team defeated the Amherst Mammoths in Williams' last home meet of the season on Saturday.
 
The Ephs also recognized their seniors – Victoria Chentsova, Kristina Barry, Dana Chung, Franny Dean, Giulia Filocca, Alison McNamara, Erin Kennedy, Maia Hare and Bryanna Lee – who committed themselves for the last four years to helping this team grow and flourish.
 
The meet started with the 200 medley relay, with the Ephs topping the boards with an inseason best time of 1 minute, 46.61 seconds. The meet continued with the 1,000 freestyle, with the Williams women placing 1-2-3-4. Sophomore Gwyneth Maloy beat the rest of the competition with a time of 10:42.33. 
 
In addition to freestyle, the Williams stroke swimmers commanded the stroke events. In the 100 and 200 backstroke, Abby Matheny topped the competition, with Gabby Granata close behind in the 100, and Gwyneth Maloy on the heels of the competition in the 200. In the 100 backstroke, Matheny outtouched her Amherst competition by 0.05, going 59.50. Caroline White followed suit in the 100 breaststroke, also topping the competition by 0.05, going 1:05.33.
 
The 100 and 200 butterfly proved to be some of the Ephs' strongest events. In the 100, Anna Peterson placed first with a strong time of 57.79, with the race for second, third, and fourth, following in her wake. Maia Hare got her hands on the wall second, going 58.45, with Veronica Wolffsneaking by an Amherst competitor to place third, with an inseason best of 58.62. The 200 butterfly was also dominated by Ephs, with Molly Craig leading the way with a time of 2:05.04. Juniors Veronica Wolff and Elinor Sherman helped the Ephs by placing second (2:06.21) and fourth (2:11.06) respectively, with Sherman's 200 butterfly her first one of the season.
 
On the boards, Gabriella Mercier showed her strength and poise as a diver, having an extremely consistent meet, and placing second on both boards. A highlight of her meet was her inward 2.5 tuck on 3 meter. Mercier also qualified for the Diving Regionals for the second time.
 
Men's Basketball
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Williams senior Kyle Scadlock became the third member of the school's Class of 2019 to score his 1,000th point, and the Ephs beat Conn College, 95-69.
 
Fellow 1,000-pointer Bobby Casey led the way with 24 points.
 
Williams (13-0, 2-0 NESCAC) goes to Tufts on Friday.
 
Women's Basketball
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Conn College outscored Williams, 17-10, in the fourth quarter to earn a 71-64 win on Saturday.
 
Emily Chang scored 18 points to lead Williams (7-6, 1-1), which hosts Tufts on Friday.
 
Men's Hockey
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Tyler Wyatt and Tyler Levine each had a goal and an assist to lead Welseyan to a 5-0 win over Williams.
 
Michael Pinios and Cosimo Lazzarino combined to make 15 saves for the Ephs (7-4-1, 5-2-1), who go to Manhattanville on Friday.
 
Women's Hockey
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Amanda Reisman had a goal and an assist, and Chloe Helting stopped 36 shots to lead Williams to a 3-0 win over Bowdoin.
 
The Ephs (8-2-1, 4-2) are unbeaten in their last six games and host Colby for two next weekend, starting Friday night at 7.
