WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Cory Lund scored five goals to set Williams College's single-season scoring mark as the Ephs defeated St. John Fisher, 17-12, in the NCAA tournament on Saturday.

 

Lund finished the day with 62 goals, eclipsing the record of 58 set in 2000.

 

Kevin Stump also scored five times on Saturday, and Harry Gahagan stopped nine shots while allowing 11 goals before departing the game with 19 seconds on the clock.

 

Williams (17-3) on Wednesday will play the winner of Saturday's late game between Union and Rochester Institute of Technology.

 

Softball

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Mackeznie Murphy and Mara Kipnis each doubled in a run in the top of the eighth to give Williams a 12-10 win over St. John Fisher in the NCAA tournament.

 

The Ephs (35-5) rallied from deficits of 8-6 and 10-9 in the late innings to force extra innings.

 

Casey Pelz and Jenny Hickey each had a home run in the win. Pelz went 3-for-4, as did Rebecca Duncan, who doubled twice.

 

Murphy and Kristin Mapes combined on the win in the circle. Mapes got the 'W' with three innings of two-run relief.

 

Williams Sunday at noon will face the winner of Saturday's game between St. John Fisher and host SUNY Cortland. If Williams wins the first game, it advances to the Division III World Series. If it loses, the teams will play again in an elimination game at 2:30.

 

Baseball

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Williams College baseball team Saturday went 1-1 on the first day of the NESCAC tournament, beating Bates, 11-3, before falling to Tufts, 6-1.

 

In the win, Kellen Hatheway went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and five runs batted in to lead a 16-hit Williams attack.

 

Jack Bohen earned the win on the mound, scattering five hits over 6-2/3 innings.

 

Againts Tufts, the Ephs (24-10) gave up three runs in the bottom of the eighth to let the Jumbos open up a tight contest.
