PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Pittsfield Girls’ Softball Leaguel once again will be very busy over the next few weeks as dozens of teams descend upon the Doyle Softball Complex on Benedict Road for two separate softball tournaments.

“Battle in the Berkshires III” will take place from Friday, June 21, through Sunday, June 23, for divisions U14, U12, and U10. Following that tournament, PGS and the Doyle Complex will be hosting the Babe Ruth New England Super Regional Tournament from Friday, June 28 through Sunday, June 30.  The tournament will feature all age divisions from U8 through U16.

In the “Battle of the Berkshires III”, the first games on June 21 will begin at 6 p.m. and action will continue to the championship games on the afternoon of June 23.  Twenty-two teams will battle for the tournament crowns. PGS’ Berkshire Force travel teams will be competing in each division with neighboring ACS Swat from the Adams-Cheshire-Savoy Softball League playing in the U12 tournament.

In order to accommodate the total of 52 games over the weekend, in addition to the four fields currently at the Doyle Softball Complex, teams will be competing on the newly created mixed use field on the site at the Doyle Complex that will be available for softball and baseball going forward. Teams will be competing from Eastern Mass, Upstate New York and Connecticut.

“Pittsfield Girls Softball is once again proud to host what has become a marquee tournament for teams throughout the Northeast,” PGS President Kevin Sherman said. “This is our third year hosting an independent tournament and we’re excited about the ways it which is continues to grow in stature. It’s a great opportunity for our players to showcase their skills in front of our local fans and to utilize the Doyle Softball Complex to its full potential. We have tremendous volunteers and families within PGS and our community that make this effort possible. We’ve also been provided generous assistance from the City of Pittsfield and many local sponsors. It’s going to be a great weekend of softball for our players and a great weekend for visitors to enjoy our entire community.”

The Babe Ruth New England Super Regional Tournament will be held the weekend after the Battle of the Berkshires and features all age divisions in New England seeking a birth in the Babe Ruth World Series.

“PGS is happy to partner once again with Babe Ruth as the gateway for all New England teams to qualify for the Babe Ruth World Series,” Sherman said.  “It’s a thrill to see players from throughout New England give everything they’ve got to earn a trip to the Series. Our community will be able to watch and support some very talented players. We’re certainly thankful to Babe Ruth for allowing PGS the opportunity to be a host city once again.”

It is anticipated that more than 20 teams will compete in the Regional tournament throughout the divisions. Teams and families will be arriving for the weekend from New Hampshire, Vermont, Eastern Mass, Maine, and Connecticut.
“Not only are these tournaments great for softball, but they are great for our community as there will be over 350 families over the course of the two weekends enjoying all that Pittsfield and the Berkshires have to offer,” Sherman said.

With hundreds for visitors and close to 100 softball games over the two-weekend span, PGS would be thankful for any assistance it could get in the form of concession work, field maintenance, and official score keeping.
