WAYLAND, Mass. -- The Williams College men's golf team started Sunday at the NESCAC Fall Qualifier with a three-stroke lead over second-place Amherst. After a hard-fought round, the Ephs emerged victorious by two shots over Tufts after at Sandy Burr Country Club.

Will Kannegeiser led the Ephs again today with another under-par round. Kannegeiser started his round well again, birdieing holes 2, 3, and 7. After a string of pars, the senior ran into trouble, making bogeys on holes 13, 15, and 16. A birdie on the short par-five 17th and a par on the par-four 18th hole secured the 71 (-1) and the individual victory. Senior captain Sam Goldenring shot 73 (+1) to finish in second-place individually behind his teammate. After birdieing the par five 1st hole and parring the 2nd, Goldenring made four on his 16 closing holes.

Freshman Ryan Savarie got off to a quick start to his second round. Savarie eagled hole 1 and birdied hole 3 before riding the bogey-train from holes 5-8. He recovered well on the back-nine, shooting two-over to finish with 75 (+3). Senior captain Ben Beiers shot 76 (+4) after battling poor ball-striking all-day. The senior made birdies on holes 3, 8, and 17. Junior Beau David also shot 76 (+4). After a solid front-nine, a few untimely missed putts late in the round derailed his chances for a low round.

The Ephs finished the event at 586 (+10), two shots ahead of second-place Tufts (588, +12). Consequently, the spring championship (the winner of which earns a berth in the national championship) will be hosted by the Ephs at Taconic Golf Club. The other two teams qualifying for the spring championship were Hamilton (595, +19) and Trinity (597, +21).
