Williams Men and Women Win NCAA Cross Country Regional

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Williams College men's and women's cross country teams each won team titles at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships on Saturday.
 
Freshman Eva Borton led the the Williams women, placing eighth in 21 minutes, 39 seconds -- 20 seconds behind individual champion Izzi Gengaro of MIT.
 
The Williams women finished with 64 points, edging runner-up MIT by 20 points.
 
In the men's race, Williams placed five finishers in the top eight to run away with the team title. The Ephs finished with 24 points, well ahead of runner-up Colby (93 poitns).
 
Williams junior Aidan Ryan and senior Ryan Cox placed first and second overall.
 
Women's Soccer
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Claire Tolliver and Brianna Binder each scored to lead the Williams women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Gettysburg in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
 
Chelsea Taylor stopped three shots to earn the shutout in goal.
 
Williams plays regional host MIT on Sunday afternoon for a berth in the Sweet 16.
 
Men's Hockey
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Niko Karamanis scored a pair of goals to lead Williams to a 5-1 win over Bowdoin as Ephs coach Bill Kangas earned his 400th career victory.
 
Evan Ruschil stopped 41 shots to earn the win.
 
Williams (2-0) goes to Connecticut College on Friday.
 
Women's Hockey
WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby's Tess Dupre scored early in the third period to break a tie and send the Mules on to a 4-3 win over Williams.
 
Delaney Szlezyngier scored a pair of power-play goals, and Chloe Heiting stopped 34 shots for the Ephs.
 
Williams (0-2) hosts Hamilton on Friday.
 
Men's Basketball
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Cole Prowitt-Smith came off the bench to score 22 points and lead Williams to an 83-48 win over SUNY Polytechnic in the title game of the Williams Tip-Off Classic.
 
Matt Karpowicz scord 17 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Ephs (2-0), who go to SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday.
 
Women's Basketball
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Maggie Meehan scored 23 points, and Mikaela Topper had 22 to lead Williams to a 97-45 win over MCLA.
 
Kylah Langston led the Trailblazers (1-2) with 14 points.
 
Williams hosts Vassar on Tuesday.
