600 Highwaymen:
A Thousand Ways

Post-event Q&A

Oct 8 | Virtual | 7 PM

Performances are only one of the many points of engagement we like to have with the extraordinary artists we bring to campus each year through the CenterSeries. Connecting artists directly to our community is another vital way we express our mission. One way we like to do this is with a post-performance Q&A. We hope you will join in a conversation with the creators of A Thousand WaysAbigail Browde & Michael Silverstone of 600 Highwaymen.

Please RSVP by sending an email here

“The Green Room: a peaceful space for progressive minds” is as a weekly informal conversation moderated by Williams professors and students, “The Green Room” will offer an opportunity for Williams students and community members to critically engage with the arts industries in which they someday hope to work, and learn from important leaders in those industries. The goal of this program will be to offer advice and mentorship resources to socially-minded, artistically conscious Williams students, but also to serve as a platform through which students can participate in a dialogue with leaders in the arts.

We’re inviting a diverse group of leading performing artists to join us in conversation over the course of the academic year, and we would love for you to be among them. “The Green Room: a peaceful space for progressive minds” will consist of serially-produced one-hour “episodes” in which speakers will be introduced, be given the opportunity to make a statement on your vision and advice, and later have a chance to answer questions from students. These discussions will take place via Zoom (or another interactive platform). All are welcome!

The series has been established by Omar Sangare, Chair and Professor of Theatre. This event was made possible, in part, thanks to the Lecture Committee and the Oakley Center for Humanities & Social Sciences, and to Professor Dorothy Wang, Chair of the American Studies at Williams.

Dance on Screen Film Festival is a special collaboration with Images Cinema. All films are free and open to the public. Tickets go on sale on October 9th.
Rize brings to the screen in vivid imagery the creators of krumping, a revolutionary form of hip-hop dance from South Central Los Angeles. Created in response to the 1992 Rodney King riots, krumping is a vigorously athletic and visually stunning dance style in hyperspeed. Helmed by fine art and fashion photographer David LaChapelle, the film functions as a moving collage, respecting the powerful images of dancers to speak for themselves while showcasing and attributing the often-appropriated ingenuity of Black teenagers in prophetic anticipation of internet culture. 86 min.

Here is the Rize trailer.

There will be a post-screening Q+A with director David LaChapelle on October 22 at 8:30 PM.
