This weekly workshop geared toward teachers will unlock new ways to use existing visual art to inspire new ideas, support storytelling and language, and ignite imagination. From cave paintings to modern art, we will explore the lines, shadows, light, color and movement of hundreds of pieces and apply these techniques to how we communicate inside and outside the classroom.

A Berkshire County native and founder of the Berkshire Jazz Collective, Andy Wrba’s become a central fixture of our thriving music community up in the hills. At MASS MoCA he’ll be joined by a who’s who of Berkshire-based musicians including Todd Reynolds, Billy Keane and Tory Hanna of The Whiskey Treaty Roadshow, Benny Kohn, and Conor Meehan.

This class focuses on Manuel Alvarez Bravo’s photograph "Ya Mero" (1968). It explores anticipation, atmosphere, and relationships to the unknown.

The right to vote is a cornerstone principle for citizens in modern democracies. Historically, however, there have been challenges to this fundamental right. The history of the United States is no exception. While there have been notable advances the last several decades to mobilize voting by citizens, there has also been a marked increase in measures to suppress the votes of younger and older citizens alike. Voter suppression has detrimental ramifications in a democracy. The stakes are acute particularly in an election year.

This webinar features Presidents from four institutions representing distinct structures and student bodies: Berkshire Community College, Howard University, Rutgers University, and Williams College. It is co-hosted by the W. Ford Schumann ’50 Program in Democratic Studies at Williams and the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers, and it invites the featured speakers to reflect on the implications of voting rights and Election 2020 for the biggest issues facing colleges and universities today. The event will contain both conversations among institutional leaders and the Presidents’ answers to questions posed by students, faculty, and staff at their respective institutions. Our goal is to generate discourses on a pressing topic and continue those discussions in our college and university communities well beyond the fall.

Virtual Woodchuck Wednesdays

We are not able to offer in person programs such as field trips and Woodchuck Wednesdays here at Sheep Hill. Since families enjoy the activities suggested in the spring Woodchuck Wednesdays Wherever column, Kathy Chesney will continue it for five weeks this fall.

This week's theme: exploring leaves.

Attendees are asked to please bring their own chairs, wear a face covering that covers the nose and mouth, and maintain appropriate social distance from other parties. For those who prefer not to attend in person, the performance will be live-streamed on the Museum Facebook page.

Each musical instrument in the Bennington Museum collection has its own unique story, but have remained silent for decades. McCullough, Nussbaum, and Tinkle work with the Museum’s curatorial staff to meet the instruments where they are, using their current state to generate new sounds. The exhibit explores the histories and traditional sounds of the instruments and provides opportunities to hear them brought back to life in new compositions.
