BRIEF: Williamstown Conducting Annual Census

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — As required by state law, the town this week will send residents an annual street census form to complete for 2021.

The town clerk Monday reminded residents that failure to respond to the census will result in their removal from the active voting list and "may result in removal from the voter registration rolls."

That said, the census is not a means to register to vote, Town Clerk Nicole Pedercini noted. Anyone interested in registering to vote can do so by going through the secretary of state's website or downloading a form from that website and returning the completed form to the town clerk.

The town's annual Street Listing is not the same as the recently completed federal decennial Census.

"The Federal Census is conducted every 10 years while the town prepares ours annually," Pedercini said in a news release.

Families with college students or members of the military who are registered to vote in Williamstown should include those individuals on the completed Street Listing census form to avoid removal from the active voting list. Likewise, school age and preschool children should be included on completed form; data will be used by the Mount Greylock Regional School District for enrollment and planning purposes.

"All forms should either be mailed back in the enclosed return envelope or dropped off in the town's new drop box, located outside the front door of Town Hall," Pedercini said. "The drop box is to be used for all town business."
