By Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires.com Sports
06:04AM / Friday, December 29, 2023

And here is a look back at some of the biggest stories we covered in 2023:   No. 1 Taconic Boys Basketball Of all the state championships won this year – and there were several – perhaps none was sweeter than that of the Thunder in the Division 5 State

The site preparations are underway for construction of a new fire station at 562 Main St.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Three high-profile publicly funded projects that took years to get underway reached or neared the finish line in 2023.   The most hotly debated project to get on track? An actual track.   The multisport field and track at Mount Greylock Regional School has been on the list of the town's top stories for years.   This year, it climbs to No. 1 after the school district finally broke ground on the project in December.   The district has long needed a track for use by the most popular varsity sport in the middle/high school, and the varsity

By Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff
05:12AM / Tuesday, December 26, 2023
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A member of the Mount Greylock School Committee this month pushed the administration to be more transparent about incidents of bias in the classroom.   "Just this very term, this quarter, there were a number of incidents in which our teachers, with apparently good intention, have made decisions in the classroom either with students or in the curriculum that have caused serious harm," Jose Constantine said at the committee's monthly meeting.   "What I'm curious about is how are we sharing those incidents with the community, who, I think, should know what's happened in our classrooms? How are we supporting our teachers to

Holiday Hours: Christmas & New Year's
01:02PM / Thursday, December 21, 2023

You once could be fined for celebrating Christmas in Massachusetts. (Massachusetts State Library)

Businesses, schools and government offices will be taking breaks next week as the nation celebrates Christmas and New Year's. Christmas falls on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and New Year's Day on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

There was too much eating, drinking, wassailing and other festiveness for the colony's righteous rulers. Even after the ban was lifted, Christmas was treated as a regular day until its popularization during the Victorian era.
