Williamstown Town Election Registration Deadline is April 28

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The deadline for voter registration for the annual town election and annual town meeting is Friday, April 28   This deadline applies to new voters only. If you are already registered to vote, you do not have to register again.   The town clerk's office will be open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.   Mail-in voter registration forms must be postmarked no later than April 28. Voter registration forms may also be returned via the drop box outside the front door at town mall or returned in person. The drop box will be checked at 5 p.m. for any incoming registration forms.   The town election will be held on Tuesday, May 9, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the

Williamstown Planning Board Recommends Defeat of Sweetwood Zoning Request

Williamstown Addressing Erosion Issue at Transfer Station

On Wednesday morning, stones fill in the hole left by erosion on the road.   WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town and Williams College are working to repair a damaged brook bank that led to erosion issues on the access road to the transfer station.   Town Manager Robert Menicocci said Wednesday that the town reached out to both abutters of the town-owned property, the college and CSX Corp., owner of the nearby railroad.   "The railroad is obviously part of a larger corporation," Menicocci said. Williamstown Fin Comm Chooses 'Careful' Path, 1.3 Percent Rise in Tax Levy

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Finance Committee last week advanced a fiscal year 2024 budget that carries a projected 1.3 percent increase in the property tax levy townwide.   The Fin Comm went into its final weekly meeting of the FY24 budget cycle with one major decision point on its plate: whether to endorse a budget that included $100,000 in spending to bolster the town's stabilization account and an additional $150,000 toward capital projects.   The potential tradeoff of pulling that $250,000 out of the spending plan was that, without it, the town would have needed to raise $20.1 million in FY24 through taxation. Williamstown 'Off the Hook' for Remaining Cost of Trail Overrun

  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — After months of consternation over the cost of overruns to a multi-modal path through town, the town manager Monday announced that Williamstown's share of the cost has effectively been cut in half.   "MassDOT has said that what they'd be willing to do is accept the $700,000 we've paid as the sum total due to them for all the overruns," Robert Menicocci told the Select Board on Monday night.   "Right now, the additional overrun is approaching $700,000.
