Williamstown Fire Personnel Committee to Interview Six Applicants for Chief Position

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Twenty-four applicants from as far away as California applied to be the town's next fire chief, the Prudential Committee learned on Wednesday.   By the end of next month, one of those applicants could be named the replacement for retiring Chief Craig Pedercini.   At Wednesday's meeting of the committee, which oversees the fire district, member Joe Beverly, who also serves on the district's Personnel Committee, reported that the latter body had reviewed two dozen applicants who sought to lead the call-volunteer department.   On Thursday, Beverly said, the Personnel Committee will interview six applicants from that pool.   The hiring

Williamstown Community Preservation Committee Funds Proposals at Half the Levels Sought

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee Wednesday decided to send town meeting warrant articles that fund each of eight applications for CPA funds at half of the levels requested.   The committee started its consideration of fiscal year 2026 requests with applications totaling about $294,000.   Pending tax collection and state matching funds, the town expects to have $202,535 in Community Preservation Act funds available in the fiscal year that begins on July 1. But CPC Chair Philip McKnight noted at Wednesday's meeting that nearly $43,000 of that available balance needed to be held in reserve for future open space requests because none of the requests

Clark Art Announces New Series of Installations

McCann Tech Hockey Program Hosting Alumni Game

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The North County high school hockey cooperative program is inviting former players to participate in the fourth annual alumni game on Sunday, Feb. 23.   The game will be played at 4 p.m. at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink.   The co-op, currently hosted by McCann Tech, also includes players from Hoosac Valley, Mount Greylock and Drury.   Tickets to the event are $10 and include the opportunity to skate with the players after the contest.   The cost for players is $40. Williamstown CPA Requests Come in Well Above Available Funds

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee faces nearly $300,000 in funding requests for fiscal year 2026.   Problem is, the town only anticipates having about $200,000 worth of funds available.   Seven non-profits have submitted eight applications totaling $293,797 for FY26. A spreadsheet detailing both FY26 revenue and known expenses already earmarked from Community Preservation Act revenues shows the town will have $202,535 in "unrestricted balance available" for the year that begins on July 1.   Ultimately, the annual town meeting in May will decide whether to allocate any of that $202,535.   Starting on Wednesday, the CPC will begin
