Clark Art Kids Week

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. From Monday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, the Clark Art Institute hosts Kids' Week at the Clark.    The week offers children and families fun activities and opportunities to see great art. Every day of Kids' Week, visitors can pick up a set of complimentary colored pencils at the Admissions desk, along with one of the always-available drawing pads.   While visiting, museumgoers are encouraged to stop by the Clark's new postcard station on the lower level of the Museum Building. Williamstown Select Board Allocates ARPA Funds to Fire Station Project

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday voted to allocate $225,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to the Williamstown Fire District's new station building project.   The rest of the town's remaining unallocated ARPA funds, nearly $1.2 million, will go toward general town infrastructure projects, according to votes taken by the board on Monday.   Those projects will be determined by the town manager, who may need to come back to the board for subsequent votes to approve specific actions to obligate the money, Andy Hogeland pointed out during Monday's discussion.   Select Board Chair Hugh Daley pushed for the board to at least earmark all of the

BArT Charter Basketball Advances to League Semi-Final

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Sawyer Moser Monday scored 20 points to lead the Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School basketball team to a 58-40 win over Hadley's Hartsbrook School in the River Valley Athletic League tournament.   The Wolf Pack used a 15-2 run in the first quarter to take control of the game, and the margin never dipped below 12 points the rest of the way.   Corey Lynch scored 15, and Matt Lizzo scored 11 for BArT in a game played at the Armory. Clark in Talks to Buy Buxton Land

  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute is purchasing the 114-acre Buxton School property in an agreement that will allow the private school to continue operating independently. Clark Art Screens 'Persepolis'

After 'Spirited' Debate, Williamstown CPC Sends 5 Requests to Town Meeting

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee on Wednesday voted to send town meeting five of the six applications for fiscal year 2024 funding.   But the last substantive votes of the night were preceded by a lengthy debate among committee members about how to balance the funds sought in the largest applications against the panel's stated goal to carry over 10 percent of its available funds to FY25.   Most of the committee's votes were unanimous, including one to reject an application from the town for $100,000 in CPA funds to defray an unexpected $1.3 million town liability for overruns in a $5.3 million pedestrian/bike trail project.   Town

Mount Greylock Sending Field Project Bonding Question to Towns

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School Committee on Thursday decided to begin the process of sending a bond authorization vote to its member towns' annual town meetings this spring in order to finance a track and field project at the middle-high school.   In a vote of 6-1, the committee voted to ask voters in Lanesborough and Williamstown to approve up to $1.8 million in borrowing toward what is currently estimated to be a $4.125 million project.   The $1.8 million figure represents the shortfall in the district's coffers after it applies the bulk of the remaining proceeds from a $5 million capital gift from Williams College and the $100,000 in

Williamstown Fire District Panel Talks Station Tax Impact

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — With fewer than three weeks left until a special Fire District meeting to decide whether to build a new station on Main Street, a district committee Thursday talked publicly for the first time about the potential property tax implications.   Jeffrey Thomas, the chair of the district's Community Advisory Committee, walked his members through four different bond payment scenarios at Thursday's hybrid meeting of the committee.   Based on numbers Thomas presented, the property tax bill for a single-family home with a median value of $358,600 would go up by between $319 and $351 over the life of a 25-year bond, depending on how the debt repayment is
