 The current outdated skate park on Stetson Road. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town is seeking approval from the Conservation Commission for a project to replace the 2,100 square foot skate park on Stetson Road with an up-to-date concrete park on roughly the same footprint. The project, which received a $32,000 infusion of Community Preservation Act funds from town meeting in May, is currently before the commission because of its proximity to bordering vegetative wetlands off Stetson Road.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Town of Williamstown, the Williamstown Cultural District, and the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce are partnering in an opportunity to showcase local artwork right in downtown Williamstown. From Labor Day to November 2025, selected art will be reproduced on vertical banners on utility poles along Spring and Latham Streets. Artists and community members are encouraged to submit designs for the Eyes on Art Town banner call. Installed: around September 13 – November 1, 2025 (weather dependent) For those selected, original artworks can be included in an exhibit in the Spring Street Market in October. For a couple of years, officials have been sending out a call for volunteers to serve on the body, which has, "authority for control of all signs," under Chapter 53 of the town's code. As of the start of Monday's meeting, just one active member of the commission was serving the town and the Sign Commission was unable to conduct business. Health Inspector Ruth Russell reported to the board that she was satisfied with the improvements made by Raymond MacWhinnie of New Hampshire on the home occupied by his mother, Linda. In February, Russell told the board that issues ranging from rodent activity to hoarding made the home unsafe for the elder MacWhinie, and the board agreed, ordering the property to be vacated. By that time, the board of the town's Affordable Housing Trust hopes to have transferred the 1.75-acre lot to Northern Berkshire Habitat for Humanity, which plans to build a four-home Meadowlands Subdivision on the site. Brian Intraversato outbid three other parties to purchase the 877 Simonds Road property for $550,000 on June 17. JJ Manning Auctioneers conducted the bidding. The property encompasses 7.1 acres of mixed-use land with eight structures, including a two-family home and two greenhouses. The south end of the property is bisected by Broad Brook; about 1.5 acres of the lot (21 percent) is on the south side of the waterway or includes the brook itself. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Two utility outages in as many days last week related to the South Street road reconstruction had town officials double- and triple-checking service maps. But they also realize that those maps are not perfect. Twenty-four hours after road crews hit a gas line that caused “a heavy odor of natural gas around Field Park,” according to a social media post by the local police, a water main break caused water to be shut off from the start of South Street north to Field Park.
