Williamstown Charter Review Committee Weighs Electronic Voting, Dual Town Meetings

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town's Charter Review Committee last week took a deep dive into several of the local government reforms that have percolated through committee discussions over the last year without deciding what, if any, recommendations to make on any of the changes.   No clear consensus emerged among the committee members on two issues that are less about the charter, the foundational document of town government, and more about the mechanics of the annual town meeting.   As part of its charter conversation, the committee explored the question of whether the town should consider altering the meeting format from an open meeting, where all registered voters can

WCMA: An Evening with Georges Dreyfus

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — In conjunction with the exhibition "Across Shared Waters: Contemporary Artists in Dialogue with Tibetan Art from the Jack Shear Collection," George Dreyfus will give a talk titled "What is a tantric deity and how to become one" at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA).   Dreyfus, a professor in the Department of Religion at Williams College, spent fifteen years in Buddhist monasteries before receiving in 1985 the title of Geshe, the highest degree conferred by Tibetan monastic universities. Clark Art's Start With Art   WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. On Saturday, March 11 at 10 am, the Clark Art Institute's Start with Art series continues.    March's free event is themed to faces and feelings. Designed for preschoolers, Start with Art offers themed talks, gallery guides, and art-making activities. Williamstown Lacking Candidates for May Election

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — With two weeks left to submit completed nomination papers for May's town election, just two individuals have taken out papers for the six seats that will be on that ballot.   Town Clerk Nicole Beverly reported Monday morning that only incumbent Andy Hogeland has taken out papers for one of two seats on the Select Board that will be decided in the May 9 election.   In the race to fill one year of an unexpired term on the Planning Board, only Benjamin Greenfield has taken out papers.   Neither potential candidate had yet returned papers by Monday morning with the required signatures to get a spot on the ballot.   In addition to the two

Clark Art Gallery Talk With Emerging Art Historians

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Friday, March 10, a Williams College art history graduate student will lead a conversation on the Clark's permanent collection.    In this program, Fresh Takes, students in the Williams College/Clark Graduate Program in the History of Art share their thoughts on an object in the collection through the perspective of new scholarship.    Tours begin in the Museum Pavilion at noon.    Admission to the Clark is free through March 2023. Last-Minute Goal Trips Williams Women in NESCAC Final

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Hamilton women's hockey team scored twice in the last 1 minute, 1 second to earn a 3-1 win over Williams in the championship game of the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament on Sunday.   Williams' Leah Rubenshteyn scored early in the third period to erase a one-goal deficit.   But Hamilton's Abby Smith scored with 1:01 left in regulation. Ten seconds later, Hyla Mosher gave the Continentals some insurance with an empty net goal.   Erin Pye stopped 30 shots for Williams, which finishes with a record of 11-12-1.

Williams Men's Hockey Wins in OT in League Semi-Final

Williams Men's Basketball Advances in NCAA Tournament

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Nate Karren scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds Friday to lead the Williams College men's basketball team to a 78-53 win over Pomonz-Pitzer in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.   Cole Prowitt-Smith scored 20 points, and Evan Glatzer had five assists for Williams (23-4), which plays the University of St. Joseph on Saturday.
