Senator Mark Announces June Office Hours

PITTSFIELD — State Sen. Paul W. Mark announced that his staff will be conducting office hours in five locations in Berkshire County in June.    Residents of any of the 57 municipalities in the Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin & Hampshire Senate District are encouraged to visit one of the following locations to ask for assistance with issues involving any state agency or to share ideas on current or potential state legislation. Appointments are not needed.   Adams: June 13 and 27 from 9 to noon, Town Hall  Dalton: June 5 from 1 to 3 p.m., Senior Center Great Barrington: June 12 and 26 from 9 to noon, Town Hall North Adams: June 13 and 27 from 1 to 4

Williamstown Watching Washington, Not Yet Fretting Impact on ARPA Funds

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town manager Friday was cautiously optimistic that a potential debt ceiling deal in Washington, D.C., that includes "claw back" provisions on American Rescue Plan Act funds would not impact the town's ability to utilize the remainder of $2.2 million in pandemic-related federal relief.   "I'm not especially concerned," Robert Menicocci said. "I always put an asterisk beside something like that when we talk about anything legislative. Clark Art Hosts Conversation on 'Outsider Art'

Williamstown Police Looking into Weekend Break-Ins

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Police are looking into a spate of crimes that were reported last weekend.   On Sunday, May 21, at about 10 a.m., police received a report of a break-in at Crisp Catering at 96 Water St., police files show.   The caller reported that two males and one female broke into the business and stole "cases of alcohol," according to the police call log.   The log indicates that there was video footage of the break-in.   Video of what appeared to be surveillance footage was posted in a local Facebook group over the weekend with a request for help in identifying the people seen entering a local business and stealing a large quantity of wine.

Williamstown Select Board Reorganizes for 2023-24 Cycle

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday quickly and unanimously voted to make Jeffrey Johnson its chair for the next year.   It took a little more time to settle on a vice chair.   Johnson, who is entering the third year of his first term on the five-person panel, abstained from a 4-0-1 vote to elevate him from vice chair to chair.   "Thank you," Johnson said after he was the lone member whose name was placed into nomination for the position. MGRS Band to March in New Uniforms

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mount Greylock Regional School's band will be marching this Memorial Day weekend in new matching polos provided by the MGRS Friends of the Arts.    The Mount Greylock Marching Mounties will be sporting brand new matching black polos this year as they march local parades. A gift from the MGRS Friends of the Arts, the new shirts mark a return to MGRS tradition, where the matching shirts or uniforms were in use for years before the pandemic. Williamstown Fire District Moving to Acquire New OPM for Station Project

Clark Art Joins 2023 Blue Star Museum Initiative

Williamstown Fire District Meeting Set for Tuesday

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Fire District voters Tuesday will be asked to approve a $524,000 fiscal year 2024 operating budget and 10 other items on an 11-article warrant at the annual district meeting.   The budget is up 6.3 percent from the $492,882 approved by district voters last spring for the current fiscal year.   It comes up midway through the meeting, set for 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at Williamstown Elementary School.   The two largest drivers of the bottom line increase are the maintenance and operation line item and management services.   M&O is up by $10,000 from a year ago, from $55,000 to $65,000, a rise of 18 percent.   Management services is up

More Than 400 Compete in Steel Rail Races

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Williamstown's Alex White was the first runner across the finish line at Sunday's MountainOne Steel Rail Marathon on the Ashuwilticook Trail.   White maintained a 6 minute, 26 second per mile pace over the 26.2 mile course from Pittsfield to Adams and back.   He reached the finish line in 2:48.42.41 to finish 5-1/2 minutes ahead of the rest of the other 72 runners who finished the event's marathon division.   The fastest finisher in the marathon was Stephen Gulley of Billingham, the event's lone hand pedaler, who finished in 2:20:05.36.   The first female runner across the finish line was Assonet's Hailey Desmarais
