Williamstown Board of Health OKs Tattoo Demonstration at College Art Museum

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Board of Health on Monday gave a variance to the Williams College Museum of Art to allow a tattoo demonstration at the venue on April 27.   The public creation of body art is planned as a program in conjunction with the museum's current exhibition, which displays works of contemporary artists of Himalayan heritage alongside traditional Tibetan Buddhist art dating back to the 18th century.   "One of the artists is Lama Tashi Norbu, a Buddhist monk ... and tattoo artist," WCMA Assistant Curator of Programs Roz Crews told the board. Clark Art Invites People With Dementia and Their Caregivers

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — "Meet Me at the Clark," a free gallery talk program designed specifically for people living with dementia and their care-partners, will be held Monday, March 20 at 1:30 pm at the Clark Art Institute.   On select Mondays, when the museum is closed to the public, specially trained educators guide open-ended conversations about art and how it celebrates our shared humanity.   Free, but advance registration is required. Clark Art Airs Production of 'Lohengrin'

Barrett Tells Williamstown to Form Broadband Committee

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — State Rep. John Barrett III encouraged the town on Monday to form a broadband committee in order to tap into federal dollars allocated to help close the "digital divide" that prevents some residents of rural areas from accessing high-speed internet.   Framing the need for broadband access as an economic development issue, Barrett touted communities, like neighboring New Ashford, that have created municipal fiber optic networks.   To take advantage of the opportunity for federal subsidies, the town would need to first create a committee and hire a consultant.   "I discussed it way back when [Town Manager Robert Menicocci] first came

Mount Greylock District Diversity Post Casualty to FY24 Budget Stress

Mount Greylock Officials to Liquidate Capital Gift to Fund Track & Field

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — After six years and hundreds of hours of committee discussions about how to utilize a $5 million capital gift from Williams College, the Mount Greylock Regional School Committee on Thursday voted to spend down the remainder of that gift on an eight-lane track and multi-sport grass playing field at the middle-high school.   By a vote of 5-1, the committee decided to reverse a February vote to reserve $1 million in the capital gift as a "building renewal" fund for the Cold Spring Road campus and seek borrowing authority from the district's member towns for up to $1.8 million to complete the athletic field project.   Instead, on Thursday the

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Preschool began sprucing up its new home by hiring local sign maker Lindsay Neathawk, owner of Neathawk Signs and Design, to create a 3D sign for the business.

Neathawk installed the sign late Monday afternoon that features multicolored hand prints from the children as the leaves of a tree poking out of the top. Underneath the name and address "a place to grow" is written. The children's hand prints were taken at the school and Neathawk then scanned them into her design programs to create the sign.
