BArT Charter Basketball Advances to League Semi-Final

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Sawyer Moser Monday scored 20 points to lead the Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School basketball team to a 58-40 win over Hadley's Hartsbrook School in the River Valley Athletic League tournament.   The Wolf Pack used a 15-2 run in the first quarter to take control of the game, and the margin never dipped below 12 points the rest of the way.   Corey Lynch scored 15, and Matt Lizzo scored 11 for BArT in a game played at the Armory. Clark in Talks to Buy Buxton Land

  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute is purchasing the 114-acre Buxton School property in an agreement that will allow the private school to continue operating independently. Officials say this will ensure the long-term stability of the century old school.   "As a small school focused on art, academics, and community, this is a historic opportunity for Buxton to ensure that the school and its mission are strengthened for years to come," Head of School Peter Beck said in the statement. Clark Art Screens 'Persepolis'

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Nomination papers for elected offices in the Town of Williamstown are available in the Town Clerk's office as of Feb. 6, 2023.    Offices on the May 9 annual Town Election ballot will be two Select Board seats, each for a three-year term, two Library Trustee seats, each for a three-year term, two Planning Board seats, one for a five-year term and the other, a one-year seat to fill the remainder of a five-year term.   Candidates seeking to run for office must stop by Town Clerk, Nicole Beverly's Office to pick up nomination papers. After 'Spirited' Debate, Williamstown CPC Sends 5 Requests to Town Meeting

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee on Wednesday voted to send town meeting five of the six applications for fiscal year 2024 funding.   But the last substantive votes of the night were preceded by a lengthy debate among committee members about how to balance the funds sought in the largest applications against the panel's stated goal to carry over 10 percent of its available funds to FY25.   Most of the committee's votes were unanimous, including one to reject an application from the town for $100,000 in CPA funds to defray an unexpected $1.3 million town liability for overruns in a $5.3 million pedestrian/bike trail project.   Town

Mount Greylock Sending Field Project Bonding Question to Towns

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School Committee on Thursday decided to begin the process of sending a bond authorization vote to its member towns' annual town meetings this spring in order to finance a track and field project at the middle-high school.   In a vote of 6-1, the committee voted to ask voters in Lanesborough and Williamstown to approve up to $1.8 million in borrowing toward what is currently estimated to be a $4.125 million project.   The $1.8 million figure represents the shortfall in the district's coffers after it applies the bulk of the remaining proceeds from a $5 million capital gift from Williams College and the $100,000 in

Williamstown Fire District Panel Talks Station Tax Impact

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — With fewer than three weeks left until a special Fire District meeting to decide whether to build a new station on Main Street, a district committee Thursday talked publicly for the first time about the potential property tax implications.   Jeffrey Thomas, the chair of the district's Community Advisory Committee, walked his members through four different bond payment scenarios at Thursday's hybrid meeting of the committee.   Based on numbers Thomas presented, the property tax bill for a single-family home with a median value of $358,600 would go up by between $319 and $351 over the life of a 25-year bond, depending on how the debt repayment is

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute continues its art in public spaces program in 2023 with a year-long installation presenting the work of contemporary artist Elizabeth Atterbury.   "Elizabeth Atterbury: Oracle Bones" is a free exhibition on view in the Clark Center's lower level and in the reading room of the Manton Research Center through January 21, 2024.   "Since we began our program of installing contemporary art in our public spaces in 2018, we have been able to introduce the work of many remarkable artists and present a unique platform for their creative and intriguing projects," said Olivier Meslay, Hardymon Director of the Clark.
