Mount Greylock Sending Field Project Bonding Question to Towns

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School Committee on Thursday decided to begin the process of sending a bond authorization vote to its member towns' annual town meetings this spring in order to finance a track and field project at the middle-high school.   In a vote of 6-1, the committee voted to ask voters in Lanesborough and Williamstown to approve up to $1.8 million in borrowing toward what is currently estimated to be a $4.125 million project.   The $1.8 million figure represents the shortfall in the district's coffers after it applies the bulk of the remaining proceeds from a $5 million capital gift from Williams College and the $100,000 in

Williamstown Fire District Panel Talks Station Tax Impact

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — With fewer than three weeks left until a special Fire District meeting to decide whether to build a new station on Main Street, a district committee Thursday talked publicly for the first time about the potential property tax implications.   Jeffrey Thomas, the chair of the district's Community Advisory Committee, walked his members through four different bond payment scenarios at Thursday's hybrid meeting of the committee.   Based on numbers Thomas presented, the property tax bill for a single-family home with a median value of $358,600 would go up by between $319 and $351 over the life of a 25-year bond, depending on how the debt repayment is

Contemporary Artist's Sculptures and Prints Featured at the Clark

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute continues its art in public spaces program in 2023 with a year-long installation presenting the work of contemporary artist Elizabeth Atterbury.   "Elizabeth Atterbury: Oracle Bones" is a free exhibition on view in the Clark Center's lower level and in the reading room of the Manton Research Center through January 21, 2024.   "Since we began our program of installing contemporary art in our public spaces in 2018, we have been able to introduce the work of many remarkable artists and present a unique platform for their creative and intriguing projects," said Olivier Meslay, Hardymon Director of the Clark.

SVHC Enacts New Workplace Violence Policy

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) has implemented a new Zero Tolerance Policy for its hospital campus, medical office building and offsite practices.   The policy and communications plan is a proactive approach detailing what actions and language are not tolerated to address the workplace violence trend currently occurring at healthcare institutions across the United States.        The American Hospital Association (AHA) reports that 44 percent of nurses report an increase in incidence of physical violence in the workplace since the pandemic and 68 percent report an increase in verbal abuse. Williams Men's Basketball Tops SUNY-New Paltz

Williams Students Lead Tour of Clark Collection

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Friday, Feb. 10, Williams College art history graduate students will guide a conversation on the Clark's permanent collection.   In a new program, Fresh Takes, students in the Williams College/Clark Graduate Program in the History of Art share their thoughts on an object in the collection through the perspective of new scholarship.     Tours begin in the Museum Pavilion at 12 pm.    Admission to the Clark is free through March 2023. The Williamstown Fire District recently released a "Comparison of Size of Proposed Williamstown Fire Station to Other Fire Stations" chart on their official website. The purpose of this data was to educate residents about the sizes of fire stations recently built in the region compared to what Williamstown is proposing to gain support.

During the Jan. 25, 2023, Fire District Prudential Committee meeting (recorded by willinet.org) I asked the District if they knew the information on their data chart was incorrect.
