 ARLINGTON, Vt. — There's a dog at Second Chance Animal Shelter that is ready to play fetch with her new family. iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home. Ava is a 4- to 5-year-old Labrador and pitbull mix who has been at the shelter for a couple of months after her owner had to move and couldn't keep her. Shelter Manager Troy Quinn introduced us to Ava who he says loves to play fetch. "Playing fetch, 100 percent that is her favorite thing to do. She's very good at it. In celebration of Laura Ellen Bacon's willow sculpture Gathering My Thoughts, part of the outdoor sculpture exhibition Ground/work 2025, the November First Sunday Free's theme is "Twisting Trees." Enjoy free museum admission from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and take part in free special activities from 1–4 p.m. According to a press release, Bacon creates sculptures from natural materials that organically blend in with the landscape.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Saturday, Nov. 1 at 10:15 am, the Clark Art Institute continues a series of gallery tours designed specifically for new parents/caregivers and their infants. Participants should meet at the Clark's main admissions desk. On the first Saturday of the month, September–June, a Clark educator leads an informal, baby-friendly tour of the permanent collection. The program aims to provide a stress-free experience for new parents and caregivers, as well as the chance to socialize with others caring for young infants.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town's Agricultural Commission is considering ways to expand its reach to protect farming in a town that once boasted 138 working farms. That number comes from the Williamstown Historical Museum, which was cited in a 2020 study by environmental planning students at Williams College. As of 2020, that number was down to 16 active farms and stables, and, statewide, Massachusetts saw 113,000 acres of farmland lost between 1997 and 2022, Ag Commission Chair Sarah Gardner told the Select Board last week. Recently, we learned that frequent Berkshire visitor, U.S. Senator Ed Markey, has another Democratic challenger. Last time it was Rep. Joe Kennedy. This time it's Rep. Seth Moulton. [Alex Rikleen of Acton, a former teacher, is also running.]
I'm not against primaries, but as WBUR in Boston said: "Moulton is running on age, but what else?" Joe Kennedy had the same platform — and Massachusetts voters rejected him.
It seems to me a candidate's age is irrelevant if he's doing the job, and Ed Markey is doing his job. Very well, in fact. As I said, he's no stranger to the Berkshires, and he's fighting Trump's fascist policies in

One member of the board and the town planner have been consulting with officials at Williams College on a potential fix to a long-term issue: The bulk of the college's campus is in the General Residence zoning district, where the kinds of buildings the school needs do not fit the regulatory regime. While its Main Theater is closed for renovations, programming continues in its Lounge space with Bartender hours and Cinema Lounge shows and continuing community events. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday decided not to fill seven months remaining on a vacant seat and instead allow town voters to fill out the board in May's annual town election. For the second time in a year, the five-person board finds itself down a member. This time, it is due to the resignation of Jeffrey Johnson, who stepped down this fall because of health issues.
