Berkshire Nonprofit Awards Call for Nominations

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Nonprofit Center of the Berkshires, in partnership with The Berkshire Eagle, will host the 6th annual Berkshire Nonprofit Awards on Tuesday, May 23 at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.    The awards recognize work being done by individuals in the nonprofit sector.   "Everyone seems excited to return to an in-person event," says NPC founder Liana Toscanini. Williams Men, Women Advance to League Semi-Finals

Williamstown's CARES Study on Track for June 30 Report

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A group of volunteers working on an assessment of how safe residents feel in their community told the Select Board on Monday that they hope to have a report finalized by June 30.   Social workers Abigail Reifsnyder and Kerri Nicoll appeared before the board to give it an update on the Community Assessment and Research, or CARES, project that launched in 2021 with the hope of an 18-month turnaround.   That timetable was thrown off when the director hired by the town to conduct the study left midway through the project, Reifsnyder said.   The good news is that the work of the project continued, largely through the efforts of volunteers like Nicoll

Clark Art Lecture on Promises and Risks of Multispecies Images

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 pm, the Clark Art Institute's Research and Academic Program hosts a talk by Research and Academic Program Fellow Shawn Michelle Smith that contemplates the promises and risks of multispecies imaginings while reflecting on what it means to think about species historically and today.    Smith considers Alison Ruttan's artwork "The Four Year War at Gombe" (2009–2011) in this presentation.    The talk takes place in the Clark's auditorium and is free and open to the public. Williamstown Fire Station Cut Down in Size

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The proposed fire station is getting slimmer by 5,000 square feet.    The Building Committee on Wednesday was informed that progress had been made in reducing the size of the 27,218 structure to also reduce the cost.   "We met with firefighters last week in identifying some square footage that could be removed from the building in order to get us down to our revised budget of $22.5 [million]," said Bruce Decoteau, a former Williams College project manager consulting for the committee. "That was a very productive meeting. So we identified enough square footage to get the building down to approximately 22,000 square feet from

Williamstown Select Board Allocates ARPA Funds to Fire Station Project

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday voted to allocate $225,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to the Williamstown Fire District's new station building project.   The rest of the town's remaining unallocated ARPA funds, nearly $1.2 million, will go toward general town infrastructure projects, according to votes taken by the board on Monday.   Those projects will be determined by the town manager, who may need to come back to the board for subsequent votes to approve specific actions to obligate the money, Andy Hogeland pointed out during Monday's discussion.   Select Board Chair Hugh Daley pushed for the board to at least earmark all of the

Clark in Talks to Buy Buxton Land
