WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The David and Joyce Milne Public Library, Williamstown's public library, is forming a search committee for the next director. After 25 years of public service, the current director, Pat McLeod, is stepping down effective in January. The board of trustees is seeking community members to serve on the search committee.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williams College Museum of Art will host a celebration of Beatriz Cortez: The Portals starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21. The Portals is an exhibition in multiple locations in and around WCMA that explores alternative genealogies of Williams College. Three outdoor components located on Main Street attend to omissions and erasures in the built environment of the campus: Historic House, 2022-23, which invites visitors to imagine the space where these forgotten workers tended to the households of colonial settlers; XX, 2022-23, a mound of steel rocks, shaped and welded by hand that pays tribute to the 18th and 19th century Black residents of 0 Comments

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Chest is accepting applications for its 2023 Mary and Henry Flynt Grants. Applications are due by Oct. 6, 2023. The bequest that established the grant program specifies that grants will be made annually, based on a competitive process to: "…persons or entities (including the Town of Williamstown) that provide services to the town or its residents (although not necessarily exclusively)."  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Clark Art Institute's Research and Academic Program hosts a talk by Brigid Doherty (Princeton University / Clark Fellow), who considers the significance of Raphael's The Sistine Madonna (1512/13) in and around two epochal essays of the twentieth century: Walter Benjamin's "The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological Reproducibility" (1935–39) and Martin Heidegger's "The Origin of the Work of Art" (1935–36). WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The School Committee on Tuesday voted to authorize the administration to again put the track and field project to bid after eliminating the "value engineering" items identified by the subcommittee charged with shepherding the project. The potential cuts in the project were presented to the School Committee last week on the heels of news that the low bid for the new eight-lane track and multi-purpose grass athletic field came back 40 percent over the district's estimate. Healey signed Executive Order #617 establishing the Governor's Youth Advisory Council to advise the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and the entire administration on issues impacting Massachusetts, such as civic engagement, education, the environment, housing, and youth violence. Williamstown Community Preschool Installs New Signage |
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Preschool began sprucing up its new home by hiring local sign maker Lindsay Neathawk, owner of Neathawk Signs and Design, to create a 3D sign for the business.
Neathawk installed the sign late Monday afternoon that features multicolored hand prints from the children as the leaves of a tree poking out of the top. Underneath the name and address "a place to grow" is written. The children's hand prints were taken at the school and Neathawk then scanned them into her design programs to create the sign.
